Daily Steps - Do you use a Pedometer?

Do you use a Pedometer? Which one?

I downloaded a free pedometer app and got to take it for it's first test run today. I'm just letting it count how many steps I take and not trying to add additional steps in to see what an average day is like for me. I've already done over 1000 just walking around the house and walking a bit after my trike ride to cool down and pick up trash some people left in the empty lot near our house.

Considering I used to have to really work to get 800 in a day, 1000 by 10 AM is great! :) I'm excited to see how many steps I have by the time I hit the pillow tonight. Then I'll add steps to that as my short term goal, and my long term goal is 10,000 steps.

If you walk/run do you use a pedometer? Do you count your steps or just count miles?

Wow great job! My long term goal is to get up to 10,000 steps. My diabetes counselor said it's just about moving more. And I was already working on that, so now I'm just starting to count my steps because I read that people who use pedometers walk 23% further or something like that. I have to admit, it's a good reminder to feel my phone on my hip and know it's counting. (one more lap around the living room) emoticon

Do I use a pedometer? Does a bear poop in the woods? LOL. My son says I'm addicted to mine. I feel naked without it. I like Omron or Lifefitness which is the same thing. I count steps but I also count miles. I have a short stride so 10,000 steps for me is not 5 miles which is actually what they want you to get in. It is closer to 12,500 steps for me. I aim for 6 miles which is considered highly active and for me that a little under 15,000 steps so I just go for 15,000 plus.

Fluffy you're so close to your goal! Just another 1/2 mile it sounds like. My current goal is 2000. We'll see if I get there in a day. For me, that's a pretty big goal since I am just getting out of my wheelchair. Every step counts!

I have carried a pedometer for years. The one I have (it's Omron too) I can just stick in my pocket, it's just a part of getting dressed for me. I aim for 10,000 steps, however it usually comes out around 9,000. So close, yet so far away!!

I usually walk about 3 miles each day, that makes about 6600 to 6900 steps, then whatever else walking I do in the course of the day. It's kind of fun just to see what you're doing.

    wow great job Phebes!

I have considered getting a Fitbit because tracking my sleep sounds like a good thing (I use a CPAP), but for now the free app on my phone seems to be working fine as a pedometer for me. In fact it's working so well maybe I'll get the pro version. Who knows. Going to see how I do with the free app for a while :) Only problem is sometimes I forget to turn it on after I pause it.

How are you finding the Fitbit to work with tracking your sleep? I don't really understand how that works.

Thanks!

I wear a pedometer all the time, and count my steps. (I have a very simple pedometer - by Omron - it has a clock, counts steps, saves seven days at a time.) However, I tracked my steps for a mile a few times, and my average mile is about 2150 steps - so I have a spreadsheet in my computer, I log my steps and it converts it to miles for me. I keep a running tally - each year I try to walk over 1,000 miles. Been doing this for about 4 years now. I think I'm in my 5th year of this.

I use a FitBit. It was only $99 and it syncs with my computer and tracks my steps, stairs and hills etc. I like it a lot. This is my second one and it does motivated me to walk more. My goal is 10,000 steps per day. It is very small and suns on a sensor. I wear it to sleep and it tracks how well I sleep too.
