A Pictorial Blog of the Garden: Part 2 (Week 3 to 6)

Six weeks ago, My friend Vicki and I had a crazy notion to plant a 750 square foot garden...

Did I mention that I'm a reluctant gardener??

It's been a pretty good success so far despite the fact that we haven't had more than two drops of rain for the last month... lugging water by hand is a great workout though!

Here are the pics we have to show for our hard labour and sore muscles so far --

(For the whole story and photos from week 1-2 on the beginnings of the garden please see Part 1 here: www.sparkpeople.com/mypa

emoticon An excellent garden!! Lots of sweat equity in your garden and a well deserved sense of pride! I hope you all plan on freezing and canning some of your bounty so that you can continue to appreciate your efforts during the winter! When my parents moved to a farm one of the first things they did was start a garden, and they tried to live off of it most of the year. My brother has continued that tradition now. Me? I make jams and preserves! Looking forward to more updates!!

You guys are doing very well with your garden! Mine is nearly in hibernation. because of the heat. I still have 3 pepper plants, a jalapeno and a zucchini, but they are not doing too well in the heat. It is nearly time to start seeds inside for a fall/winter garden. I am trying to figure out what to plant!

Thanks for sharing the pics of your garden! I'm so jealous! LOL I've got a few tomato plants in pots this year, but am hoping to have a larger garden next year. I've got a yellow pear tomato plant too, and it's got one ripe and one almost ripe tomato on it already, along with a ton of green tomatoes. My other plants only have blooms right now, but are otherwise doing well.

Love it!

Thanks for the tour!! Been a long time since I've been able to "dig in the earth". Hoping after we move we can build raised beds and I will be able to get back to gardening!

Just love the taste of fresh veggies and even the canned tomatoes in the winter.

Enjoy the "fruit of your labor"!!!

Amazing! I wish I had a sunny spot like that!

I am now certifiably nuts! I interrupted this note to grab a flashlight and go into my backyard to turn off a sprinkler. On my way, I noticed some invasive vines coming thru the fence from next door, and pulled them all out, before completing my trip. The water is now off and the weeds are in my yard waste container.

Your garden looks wonderful! Mine is full of weeds. I pull weeds everyday but I can't keep ahead of them. I have been watering everyday due to a drought. The water helps the weeds grow.

Love the heritage plants. I am going to have to find some.

Oh wow, looking at the result of hard, sweaty, aches efforts, I think it's totally worth it to start the garden! By the way, your garden is way tidier and nicer looking than ours and you guys seems to have a better equipment. All we have is hoes to dig the soil for planting the plants :D

What an inviting garden! There's nothing better than having fresh produce right from your own backyard. I have great admiration for those who can grow food like that! I am not that great at keeping plants alive...my mom, on the other hand, is a natural when it comes to all things domestic, gardening included. We live off of her produce a lot during the summer months :-)

Looks great, what a transformation. I put a little elevated garden in this year and it's doing well too. It's only about 4'X16" but it's producing a lot of tomatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers, and strawberries. I added a water barrel with a seaper hose to water it so that helps make it low maintenance. Just trying to be a little more green. It's fun and cost effective to grow your own food. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

What a beautiful garden - and so big! It was a joy to scroll through the lovely pictures. I particularly loved the water drenched borage. It's been really dry here too; I've been hauling water to my three potted tomato plants.
