10K around Lady Bird Lake in Austin

Sunday, July 08, 2012

This is an easy walk on flat surface on good trails. It is 99% shaded in the mornings. It is however a high traffic area, don't go there if you want some time alone!

Our official Volksmarch starts at Homestead Studio Suites Hotel where our walk box is in the lobby for us to register and stamp our record books.

We walk over past the Palmer Events Center and then up Observation Hill before crossing over the lake on the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge. We walked down the north side of the lake to the Mopac bridge. This is DH posing with the Mopac bridge behind him. The top of the bridge is car traffic, the lower level is a pedestrian bridge.

Crossing the Pedestrian Bridge.

Down the south side you have to cross over Barton Creek. This is Barton Road reflected in Barton Creek at the pedestrian bridge.

You continue down the south side past Stevie Ray Vaughn's statue and then walk back to the start.

Awesome pictures. It makes me realize what I have been missing in Austin. We run up there for the bats in the evening and walk the dirt trail along the river.

I love this area of Austin, as well as South Congress area (so bohemian!). Thanks for sharing!

How beautiful! I have been wanting to go to the Austin area sometime soon and this would be a great thing to do while we are there! Thanks for posting.
