“Growth can only be gradual. The seed that is sown today does not sprout into a tree the next day. It does so only in the course of time, at its own pace, and by its own order.” —Swami Kripalu
At first glance this makes sense. We need to realize that change is not overnight. That we must give it time.
BUT, the tree grows in a linear fashion. It starts a seed and it's change is gradual but steady. It does not grow up one day, and then down the next. It does not backslike, it does not shrink.
So why then do we give ourselves permission to take two steps forward and one back, or alternately, one step forward and two steps backward.
And so, we are not the tree. But we can try to be! One step forward at at time. And try to limit the backward steps.
