Missing my Workouts and an Esteem Boost

Sunday, July 08, 2012

Soooooo, itís only been too long since my last blog. What has been going on?

Iím currently down about 35 pounds since March of 2012 and feeling pretty good- at least most days. Today, I have a sore throat, Iím PMSing and I missed a Zumba workout during the week due to family stuff and will miss another one due to work stuff tomorrow. With all my feelings of icky-nes, it is my workouts that I am missing most right now.

I popped in a Julian Michaelís DVD to try to make up for my missed time, though it just wasnít the same- and it felt more like ďexerciseĒ that what I prefer.

Regardless, I was proud of finding some way to get in some cardio. Typically, I would hop on the elliptical, though I recently broke it.

Uh, yeah. You heard that right. I broke the darn thing.

Howís that for an esteem boost? To be elliptical-ing and BREAK THE MACHINE! I think I would feel worse if this had happened at the beginning of my fitness journey, though since I know Iím on the right track, Iím blaming this on defunk equipment- not me and NOT my weight or my body.

I need to call Searsí repair or start reading up on elliptical fly wheels and belts and digging out the screwdrivers.

Julianís not so bad, though I much prefer using the elliptical or, or course, my Zumba.

Hi, I just responded to your post on a Zumba thread and came to read your blog. I found a blog called blogilates that I like because it has a lot of variety. Check it out, and although there's nothing like a live Zumba class, there's also TONS of Zumba videos on YouTube, as well as other workout videos.

I'm trying to get through Jillian's 30 day shred, and you're right... it does feel so exercise-ish! But I'm going to get through and then I don't ever have to do it again of I don't want to! :)

Great job getting exercise in when it's tough! Those can be difficult, but I tell myself that as long as I do SOMETHING, even if it doesn't compare to my normal workout, that is still a half hour or 15 minutes or whatever more than I would have gotten otherwise. Which is what you did! You are awesome!

(That emoticon is you saying, "Bah, evildoer elliptical, curse your non-workingness!" Hope you can get it fixed soon!)

Sorry to hear about your machine. It's such a pain to get someone to come fix it. (We got the extended warranty when we bought ours and come to find out it only works if we pack the thing up and bring it to the store where we bought it). Anyway, it's good to hear you're kicking butt with the exercise.

You made me feel quilty. I too have a stupid sore throat thing, and just icky feeling. I haven't even tried to exercise. My choice of machines is also the elliptical. I agree with the others, that they just wear out. Which means you've done alot of hours on yours!!!!! Mine is only 7 months old, so my fingers are crossed it will hold up for a few years. I don't like dvd's much.
Congrats on the 35 lbs. Wowie zowie!!!! And here's to getting over our ICKY's. What in the world could it be? In Arizona we don't get stuff in the winter, so I'm thinking the N/W last week or the airline, or it's just plain allergy (which I get too often)

    Looking very good!

Treadmills and ellipticals do breakdown. I think the most robust (and compact/safe/effective) cardio machine is this:

I'm not a rowing fan but it does work and these things go on and on and on and never breakdown or need power other than a battery..

we have treadmills at work that break every 3-4 months. they are controlled to not go over a certain speed. sometimes we just have to find some alternatives. but at least you can always go to zumba or another class.

So glad you found an alternative to the elliptical. DO NOT feel bad what-so-ever about the machine breaking, they do that even with thin people. I know one woman who went through 2 treadmills on her road to fitness before giving up and jogging the roads. One of my best friends is 5'10" and 115-120lbs and has wore-out many machines before she gave up and started exercise to DVD's and the local trails. So you may want to look at it as you wearing the machine out, you outlasted it. Way to go.
