I have been really frustrated this last month or so. I have been trying to get back in the hang of tracking my workouts and food because I keep gaining weight although I feel like I've been eating better than usual and being much more active. Tracking food is still hit or miss, but I haven't missed posting a single workout, which is good because it has been keeping me jogging regularly.
I remember when I first started jogging 3 or 4 years ago, it really hurt but I always felt great afterward. It gave me lots of energy so it was easy to want to go in the morning. Then, for whatever reason, I stopped jogging until this last academic year since I've tried making it part of my routine again. I have only really been consistent for the last month - since the second week of June - but I don't ever feel good after a jog. I know I'm pushing myself, too, because it's really hard and I try to go a little further every other jog. I want to get back up to 3 miles every day like I used to. There is definite progress in distance and I feel like I'm getting faster, but just now this 1.5 miles was a real struggle and I really feel awful.
Another quite personal reason I have been wanting to get back into running, besides the obvious benefits and wanting to do another 5k+, I have been super, super irregular for several months. I remember it really helped to keep my system running smoothly. But even now that I have been jogging several times a week for the last month, I'm still totally backed up. Honestly, sometimes I really have to just kick my butt out the door because most of the time when I'm nearing about a mile, I start getting very sharp pains in my lower abdomen, like I have to go to the bathroom *urgently*. I stay near the bathroom at the park or plan it so I can be back at my apartment after about a mile. But unless I get to the toilet at the peak of the cramps, nothing happens. It pushes me to tears and I have no clue how to make the pain pass, so I just wait it out. I have been using Metamucil since around Christmastime, and it helped for awhile, but now it doesn't seem to have any effect on my system. So I started taking Swiss Kriss laxative tablets every now and then, but they only work not even half the time.
Jake thinks maybe I'm not drinking enough water, so for the last week especially I have been very mindful to drink lots and lots of water. I have a flavored seltzer water sometimes and seldomly drink soda or alcohol. My diet is not particularly high in salt or sodium. I guess I ought to really pay attention to what I'm eating, though.
I am open to any comments or advice.
