I had an awesome year last year. I participated in over 12 5Ks for various causes and 3 mud runs. Then in January I went out on one of our unseasonably warm days and ran a 5k and achieved a new PR. I could barely walk the next day but after not running for a month I expected a little discomfort.
So here I am 7 months later and I am still unable to run without paying for it for the next week. Needless to say that due to a huge decrease in activity level for the past 7 months I have gained about 20 lbs.
This is where the do over comes in. First thing tomorrow I am going to enter in my CURRENT weight and measurements on SparkPeople and get my life back on track. I need to suck up the fact that it is dangerously hot here right now and as much as I hate to workout inside I am going to have to make the best of it.
I have no excuses, I have free access to a full gym and $2.00 aerobics classes to include spin, water aerobics, Zumba, step, and yoga. I have an extensive workout DVD library worth hundreds of dollars, I am sure. Not to mention my recent inflatable kayak purchase and a new hybrid bike. I have had the kayak out a few times and my arms are like limp spaghetti for the next two days. I have yet to take the bike out for a good spin due to the heat. I just got it this past weekend and it has been in or near 100 degrees here for the past week.
My son was great last Friday. We spent the afternoon at the pool and he ran laps with me in the lap lanes. We also did some walking lunges and swam a few laps. He does owe me a Just Dance session on the Wii. Oh yeah, I have Wii workouts too.
Like I said I have no excuse not to get my butt moving. I am just unable to do what I really want to do without ending up getting another series of cortisone shots. I round of those in your heel is enough for anyone.
Heck I even broke down and called the free Weight Management program that comes with my health insurance. She isnít due to check in on me for another week or so. I started reading Bob Harperís Skinny Rules today. I know that my diet could always use some improvement but compared to what it was 3 or so years ago it is pretty good. I know that I let things slide every now and then but seriously it isnít that bad. I gain weight in my sleep, as soon as I stop moving I turn into a fat magnet. The fact that I am over 40 isnít helping at all.
So now that I have had my pity party and made my plan to start over public I am hoping that it will help keep me accountable.
Two steps forward and on step back is still in the right direction, right????
