New Sleep Experiment - After Two Weeks

Friday, July 06, 2012

It has now been two weeks of this sleep experiment. This is a report on the results which, to my continuing amazement, are 100% positive.

(For readers who need a little background, I suggest reading the first post on the experiment plus the article linked to in the post: www.sparkpeople.com/mypa

.

This morning, my weight is down 1.1 pounds from last week. It is now 167.5.

Of seven nights of sleep this week, six of them were very good. One night was not very good which I attribute to allowing a waiter to give me several refills of coffee the day before at breakfast.

Energy during the day has been great.

So, there you have it. Who would have thunk it? By not eating between 4pm and 9am, but eating whatever I want between 9am and 4pm, I am improving my sleep and, so far anyway, losing excess weight as well.

Unlike other successes I have had: losing weight, running 5 and 10k's, etc., this one is a little weirder to report. It is a very different idea than anything usually put out there in the mainstream. I probably would have ignored it myself if I wasn't desperate to start sleeping well.

I already only share it here, or with a few trusted friends and family members. Even so, the responses are reserved. I completely understand, because that would be me too if I were on the other end.

I will report again next week, although it might just be another boring report of success! I hope so.

That is truly amazing!!! I think I will try it, but I'd have to get my husband adjusted to me not eating dinner.

Maha referred me to your blog, since I have had a life long sleep disorder. I, too, have RLS. Drives me CRAZY. Not too bad, unless I am fatigued, or have over done excercise involving lower extremties.

I am not sure (because I have a husband that doesn't cook -but he does laundry and vacumning!- and because we socialize a fair amount, and that often involves dinners around 6 with our working friends) but certainly a 6-7 pm cutoff would....even that would be an improvement.

Interesting experiment. I will be curious to see how in a month or two you are doing.

I know all the traveling I do doesn't help, but I am not willing to give that up. And once I DO fall asleep, I sleep well as a rule. But when we are home, this certainly may be worth a try....and also staying off the comuter after 7-8 pm. I am convinced that the backlight affects my sleep.
