This sponsorship is so wrong, localBoys/Girls club of Anaheim

Thursday, July 05, 2012

I know I haven't been on Sparks for a while but I posted this to my FB page and it just seemed so wrong that I thought I would post it here too. Hope some will pass this on. Motel KIds is a great program, many homeless kids in the Orange County, CA area (they did a film about them, shown on either PBS or cable). Many are homeless because of jobs lost, but just as many or more from drug and alcohol use by their parents.

Ok, I want to know does anyone else think this is a bit off or wrong? Article in the our Town section of OC Register 7/5/12 Anaheim
Wine-raiser: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim will host the annual Corks for Kids beer & wine tasing event for the Motel Kids Outreach Program from 6p-9p on 7/19. ect...... bla bla
1. Many of these kids are living in motels because their parents have trouble with either drugs or alcohol.
2. Many of these kids go to the Boys & Girls Clubs to get away from the problems at home among them alcoholism.
3. Who among the people running this show really thought this was a good idea?
Oh I know. Lets have a party for these poor kids, let people buy tickets so they can drink beer & wine and then give these motel kids the money.
4. What kind of message does that send?
I guess it's ok to drink kids, as long as the money is going to a good cause!
What the F***!

I also did not state because one can look this up online, but event is being held in the Diamond Room at Angel Stadium, Go Angels! Nope not good idea. I normally do not use profanity but I was at a lost for words about this event.

Hope you all had a great 4th of July!

Did you attempt to contact anyone from the organization about this? I fear that if something isn't said, morons in charg will just continue to make bad choices - and where children are involved, this is not a good thing.....

Sheesh - WTH are "people" (and I use the word very, VERY loosely) thinking? (I use THAT word LOOSELY as well!)

I have always been of the opinion they should be banning alcohol along with cigarettes for all the harm they do to people's lives and those around them..
Some people just don't think. Unfotunately, the use of alcohol is very common in people's lives. I know so many women who have to have their 'calming' glass of wine before bed. my step dad has to have his rum and coke, could go on and on..
Sorry to hear this 'charity fund raiser' for kids uses alcohol as its focus. Ludicrous!!

Yep. You're right. We've got the same sort of thing here in central FL, too. Budweiser sponsor the Margarita Ball and a lot of people drink to raise money for charity. There definitely is a disconnect. Not sure what I want the people who live and benefit from alcohol proceeds to do except go out of business.

You hit it right on! Yes, this is so wrong! Talk about not helping at all, but helping to get them hooked or more hooked. This sounds very typical of alot of stuff that's going on in our country today. I hope someone intervenes and gives those kids something worthwhile, like hopes for a good education some day!
