Specific Carb Diet

Thursday, July 05, 2012

So, I am going to try the SCD to get my crohns and its (crappy...ALL pun intended) side effects under control. So .... from now on I will shop on the OUTSIDE edge of the grocery store. I'm only going to eat fruits, veggies, legumes, meat, seafood, eggs, and limited dairy.
I HAVE to get my crohns under control... There has to be a BETTER way than drugs to "fix" me

Anyone else tried this diet? And DOES IT WORK??????
(has to right?)

I think it is a good strategy to focus on what you want to eat, and to make sure you eat those - instead of focusing on what not.
I decided to eat a salad for dinner - I might eat something else, too, but I eat a salad first, no matter what.

Here's an interesting article about it:

I don't do a specific diet for my Crohns. I do stay away from fried foods and try to eat veggies (cooked, can't always handle raw ones), fish, etc. I have to be careful about fiber intake, too. If you're adding fiber, be careful! When I'm having a bad Crohns day I stick to a low residue diet (low fiber) to ease things through.

Let us know how the diet works for you.

The elimination diet would work... if what gave me flares was a "constant" but it never is.
After actually reading what the SCD entails? Holy CRAP...
I might try something similar to the anti-inflammatort diet.
The list of safe foods is much bigger with that one.

More Organic... MUCH less processed foods.
    MUCH less preservatives...
I guess "healthy" food isn't supposed to come in a box.

Every time I've added fresh vegetables or legumes I have trouble with my Crohn's. Small amounts of fruit, lots of cooked veggies, fish, chicken, eggs and easier 'processed' carbs like white rice keep me from living on a throne.
Have you tried a strict elimination diet to control it then try adding in 1 food at a time to get specific triggers? I did it years ago and have been so much happier.
    Best wishes
