Dogs can be wonderful fitness trainers

Thursday, July 05, 2012

I used to find it frustrating to go for walks. I use a cane and struggle going short distances. I noticed a few dog owners who would walk by the window several times during the day. I eventually got to know them and was surprised to find out that they too had disabilities and weight problems. Instead of walking long distances, they simply took their dogs out several times a day for shorter walks.
One guy had lost over 100 pounds from walking his dog everyday!

So I started walking to the mailbox with my dogs. Next time I went a bit further, then further and further. Then one of my dogs veered off onto a path into the forest and I went was beautiful in the forest. I hadn't been there for years even tho it's right at the end of our street!

Now I take the dogs for several short walks a day preferrably right before I eat to increase my metabolism. If I forget, the dogs quickly remind me by dinging their leashes on the bannister. Who would've thought that I had 2 cute fitness trainers right at my feet!

I am greeted at the door by my two exercise partners every night. They help keep me moving even when sitting on the couch would be so much easier. emoticon
