Happy 4th of July SparkWorld!
Hope everybody is enjoying their family, friends and freedoms today!
I started out the day watching (on tv, over my coffee) a group of people take the oath of citizenship at Independence Park downtown. Philly has a gazillion Independence day activities and always a fabulous concert on the Parkway and Art Museum steps at night. I used to go in person, but the heat and the crowds are too much for me. Will probably watch the concert on TV.
Followed coffee with a visit to my old friend Richard Simmons who I have been neglecting terribly....Boy did my body tell me it was neglected. I pushed through and tried to enjoy myself as I put a whole lotta sweat into Sweatin' with the Oldies.
Then I rejuvenated under my new fancy shower head that Meowdaddy installed last night (retirement present to self!) WoW...was that a delight! I'm sure with today's heat I may pop in it again.
I'll poke around the yard a bit later while Meowdaddy does the grilling. We're having chicken and veggie kabobs. I marinated boneless chicken breast in lemon, olive oil, rosemary, garlic oregano and black pepper. (My favorite Greek inspired chicken marinade). Skewering those bad boys with green pepper, sweet onion, cherry tomatoes and marinated mushrooms (evoo and balsamic). Also grilling some up some spicy Asian marinated London Broil (szechuan sauce, lite teriyaki, rice wine vinegar, olive oil, a spot of sesame oil and cilantro) to slice and add to salads and burrito/wraps for the week. Of course he must go gonzo and make the heat worthwhile so he's barbecuing a cut up chicken as well. Also making a spinach totellini pasta primavera with every vegetable I can find in the bin. That's it. No chips, no sodas, no mac n cheese, no cake, no mayonnaise. Ice cold watermelon already prepped in the fridge.
When I absoluteley can't deal with the heat and humidity another second (doesn't take long...) I'm coming in to watch 1776, the musical. I bought the dvd for my Social Studies class this year, the kids loved it. I saw it when it was first released (on a class trip to Radio City Music Hall when I was in school. Thought I'd hate it and was really surprised!)
Whatever your plan, eat sensibly, keep the water flowing and enjoy your day!
I'm off to chop, slice and dice!
