I had to reset my ticker.

I had a target to run 5K (or more) a day, and I did it from the 16th of June to the 1st of July, except one really hot day when I ran about 2K and walked the rest. But Monday I worked 14 hours and just didn't feel like doing it when I got home, and yesterday I drove to San Antonio and back to pick someone up at the airport, down one of the country's most congested highways at rush hour. I should have gone out anyway, but I was just really sleepy. Excuses, excuses.
So, I'm starting over. My new self-challenge is a combination of continuing the 5K a day as long as I can, and also trying to "streak" for a year-- run at least a mile every day. If I don't make the 5K, I'll still make myself do at least the mile. I did that once before, and that was the year I hit my lowest weight.
The good news is that the 16 days I did manage to keep the 5K streak going seem to have paid off. I'm about 3 pounds down from my "scary weight," which means I'm only 11-12 above my lowest. I think I probably can lose close to 10 in the 90 days I'm going to be volunteering in the National Park, so I'll be in a comfortable spot. (There's a track in the little residential "village" in the park, so I won't have an excuse not to keep up the running streak even if my trail running shoes don't work out.)
Oh, and more canning adventures: I made the banana jam and it is FABULOUS! It makes the world's best peanut butter sandwich! I also canned tomatoes-- about 8-10 pounds that made 5 pints, but I had to freeze one pint because only 4 jars would fit in the pot I use for a canner.
Tonight it's time for fig preserves. There's a hedge of fig trees hanging over a sidewalk around the corner, and no one else picks them, so I helped myself. They're not great for eating plain, so I'm going to make preserves and also maybe dry some. I'm trying to decide whether to also dry tomatoes. I have a lot of dried tomatoes left from last year; I like the idea of sundried tomatoes but then I don't end up using them!
