why I hate water

Monday, July 02, 2012

Ok, that's not true. I love water. I drink a lot of water. But there's just something about water that bothers me. Not water itself, but the reputation water has as a cure-all for every health problem imaginable. A reputation it just doesn't live up to.

All these nutritionists and weight loss experts tell us to drink water to lose weight. My sparkpeople nutrition tracker gives me a place to record how many glasses of water I drink and gives me a goal to drink 8 a day.

Here's what I hate: I do that. I drink plenty of water daily. I don't drink soda, I don't drink diet soda, I don't drink juice or kool-aid or chocolate milk or gatorade. All I drink is water (and coffee). And I'm still overweight. If drinking enough water were the key to weight loss I would be underweight by now.

I know water is good for me. I'm not arguing that. I suppose if I hadn't stopped drinking soda and other sugary drinks when I was a teen I might have gained twice as much weight. It's just kind of frustrating to hear people say how much weight they lose just by giving up soda. Oh well. I guess I'll just go drown my sorrows in a big glass of water.

I too drink tones of water a day and I do agree with you, how yes its good for you, but not the main ingredient in losing weight.

I feel you. I drank tons of soda in high school but was so much skinnier and now I drink nothing but water 95% of the time and I have gained so much weight.

I think the people who drop a lot of weight by switching to water were probably consuming 600 calories a day of soda and other drinks in the first place. So for people like us who drink water already it doesn't make much of a difference. BUT I will say that drinking water at the right time has helped me a lot.

Drinking it before I eat and drinking lemon water before bed has helped me curb my snacking. I stopped drinking lemon water at night and I was so hungry! But once I started again my midnight snack cravings were gone. That is truly the only 'miracle' water has ever given me. Other than using the bathroom 20 times a day. emoticon

Good luck with your water! emoticon
