Catch up blog after the DERECHO!!

Monday, July 02, 2012

The storm that hit south Jersey on Friday night/ Saturday early morning is called a derecho, according to the weather service. I have read that it was 300 miles wide and had straight line wind gusts up to 91 mph. Needless to say, we are lucky to have very little debris in our yard or any injuries.

Power is out for close to 2 million...some in much worse condition. Although I am counting my blessings, the over 55 hours without electric power is wreaking havoc on my fridge, my sparking and my tv watching. None of course is all that bad(except the food and even that can be replaced) but the worse part is trying to keep the animals cool and trying to keep dh cool enough to sleep. I am so grateful that friends have invited us to shower and eat with them. and they have given us water.

No Zumba today, the gym was closed, most of my adopted city of Vineland has trees down all over town. Saturday was an eyeopener when at 6 in the morning I found two huge trees across the road that I have travled for 36 years to get to work...It has been a surreal experience..

I have met some very nice people while in line for different things, coffee, ice etc, and have helped a friend who couldn't get to her car because of the electric garage door opener.

If you would like to see some pictures of our problems, go to www.thedailyjournal.com and check the photo galleries.

If you are the praying kind, keep the families of the two little boys who were killed by a falling tree in my beloved Parvin State park. The park is closed indefinitely leading me to believe is may have as much damage as the city.

Thanks for those of you who tried to touch base with me. And thank you for the goodies that makes me feel spoiled!!! emoticonto you all!!

May you be safe, happy and content. And may I get back online tonight!!!

Glad you are OK - the Derecho came thru where I live. I was lucky - didn't even lose electricity but a lot of other people weren't that lucky. So sad about the 2 little boys.

TERRI I was so happy to see your Post. I was wondering what was happening down there. It seemes as though they talked about NJ a great deal.
Happy you have weathered it and as we found in our ice storm many kind people helped one another it really feels good despite the problems.

My daughter and husband were also victims of this storm in BALT, MD and are still without electricity. I knew nothing about this when DD called me Saturday morning in dears because her finals were due that day and she couldn't figure out what to do! She ended up finding a Starbucks and camped out for the weekend. It all sounds chaotic and very HOT, she says they probably won't have electricity until this coming weekend. YIKES. Glad you and yours are ok and have friends to rely on. Big Hugs.

How sad about the two little boys. God be with their family and give them peace and comfort them as they grieve this loss. Amen.

Hang in there. For the most part, I would say your attitude is amazing.

God Bless, Sunny
