10K Training Day 1

Monday, July 02, 2012

I started my training today for a 10K. I don't feel like I did super hot. I only had to run 1.5 miles and it was struggle. I don't know if it is b/c I waited until 9:30 to go and it was already hot and muggy or b/c I am that much out of shape. My next run is Wednesday and that one is only 1.5 miles but I am going to try and get up early to run before it gets hot.

What method are you using for running? I would try run/walk intervals for a while. I have to start there whenever I'm building endurance back up. Be positive about the workouts you are doing! Holding yourself to previous distance times can be discouraging. You go girl, you can do it!

1.5 is almost a quarter of it. Pretty good for your first day

Great idea to get up early before it gets hot. Best wishes.

I find upbeat music helps a lot. Walk/run is okay, too. I love to run in a pool when it's really hot. Stay safe.

If you can't get out before the heat becomes opressive, are there any other places you can go to do your running? Sometimes running around a lake will afford a cooler breeze. Can you find access to a treadmill? If there are no other choices, seek out some shade and bring a lot of water along. You don't want to worry about collapsing from heat stroke and messing up your plans.
