Three years ago I was nervously rushing around getting my hair done and makeup on... getting ready to pledge my love in front of a hundred people to the man I have known since senior prom. As a reminder every year we read the poem we read to each other at our ceremony, on our anniversary.
Why Marriage? by Mari Nichols
Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person,
With all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body...
Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimacies of me,
Who won't hold them against me,
Who loves me when I'm unlikable,
Who sees the small child in me, and
Who looks for the divine potential of me...
Because I need to cuddle in the warmth of the night
With someone who thanks God for me,
With someone I feel blessed to hold...
Because marriage means opportunity
To grow in love in friendship...
Because marriage is a discipline
To be added to a list of achievements...
Because marriages do not fail, people fail
When they enter into marriage
Expecting another to make them whole...
Because, knowing this,
I promise myself to take full responsibility
For my spiritual, mental and physical wholeness
I create me, I take half of the responsibility for my marriage
Together we create our marriage...
Because of this understanding
The possibilities are limitless.
The traditional gift for 3rd year anniversaries is leather. My husband gave me a beautiful leather journal and said, "Every night I want you to write in this journal all the things that made you happy for that day. That way when you have a bad day you can re-read what you wrote and remember the happy times." Gosh he knows me so well! I've been a little down about my horrible plateau and he always knows what to say and what to do for me to turn my mood around. The other day I said I was annoyed with my weigh in again and he reminded me that 6 months ago I was winded from playing one game of racquetball and now I can play 6 games and still have enough energy to run a half a mile. A year ago I couldn't run. I love my husband so much and can't wait to spend many more years with him! Oh and I got him a leather wallet and a frame for his new office with a picture of us from our wedding in it. We also made a plan to make a 3rd anniversary time capsule and we are going to make a picture book of photographs we take of the tradition gifts/colors of this year. I'll share that with you all when it's done.
For our anniversary we went to the restaurant we had our reception at, Salvatore's Italian Gardens. I dressed up in a pretty dress, and my husband in a shirt and tie. I had lobster bisque, a salad, kobe goat flatbread (caramelized onions, goat cheese, drizzled with a 18 yr “d’avolio” balsamic topped with kobe tenderloin... amazing!) and my entree was Salvatore’s Classics (a combination of house favorites, steak russell, chicken milanese & white truffle prosciutto tortellini, served with spiked carrots). For dessert I had some yummy coffee and a cannoli! The dinner was amazing! I had enough food leftover for another meal the next day!
Me being silly... this is the jewelry my best friend bought me and that I wore with my wedding dress the day I got married. It was awesome getting to wear it again! It's so pretty and expensive! hehe!
Flowers my husband got me. My favorite is carnations and he said he made sure they made a bouquet at the florist with my favorites! yay!
Re-staged the giving of the flowers to me for picture purposes! I held this face for 12 seconds waiting for the camera timer to go off! My husband was laughing at me.

The wedding picture I had printed for his office:
Thought I would throw this in here too:
This is me at my wedding shower 3 years and two months ago! My shower was themed "Phantom of the Opera" because it was my favorite musical/movie at the time. I loved it! My mom made the cupcakes/cake and stand.
And this picture was taken about a month ago. I'm not sure if you will be able to tell in these tiny pictures but I'm wearing the same shirt only it fits way better. I still have that shirt after all these years! I can't wait to retire it!
