Through It All, Still Making Progress

Friday, June 29, 2012

When I first started losing weight it NEVER occured to me to measure myself because I was so focused on what the scale told me. Thank GOD for SparkPeople.

I was so inspired by BRITT831's blog today that I decided to measure myself to see how far I've come in 1 month, and of course, 1 year.

Last Month -

Waist = 41 Inches

This Month -

Waist = 40 Inches (I LOST A FRIGGIN' INCH!)

1 Year Ago -

Waist = 49 Inches (and this was after I had lost around 40lbs; I remember seeing a great big ol' 56 or something the year before that for a show I was in)

Don't pay attention to that dang scale people, I am PROOF. As much as we'd like it to be, it ISN'T your friend. It may say something nice like it did to me today (back to 216 from 221 a few days ago), but it's about INCHES LOST. Simple as that.

Didn't get into the musical, but I'm staying positive. You can't keep MISSB8604 from the stage long...ha!

  Great advice, in the past I've forgotten about every other measurement in favor of the scale, which can be very deceiving. Now, I use other things like how I feel physically, how my clothes fit and how my face looks-it always thins out when my weight goes down. Your post is a reminder that this is a whole life experience, not just one thing.

    Hi Sweetie Pie Miss B! Good point about inches vs. scale. I think other numbers come into play, as well. Cholesterol level, resting heart rate, number of minutes we can be on our feet moving (whether it be dancing or walking or running or hiking, etc) before being exhausted or out of breath - there are so many measurements besides the scale. For me, one of the biggest improvements has been the way I feel when I am just moving through my daily life. Even though I still have 20 or more pounds to set down to be at a more comfortable, healthier weight, I move so much better, and more comfortably than I did 25 or 30 pounds ago. I am glad to hear you are feeling upbeat. Did you find an apartment, by the way? I wish you all the best, lovely Mss B.

    Thanks for the reminder! My scale ran out of battery and I was getting itchy wondering about my weight. I'll measure tomorrow morning!

    I used to obsess about the scale so I decided when I joined Spark People that I would weigh ONCE a month. I should have stuck to that because when I joined a challenge that required weekly weigh-in's I stopped losing weight. I went back to stepping on the scale once a month. I weigh myself for on July 9th! I think it's going to be better than it was when I weighed weekly because I even gained at times. When I am discouraged time after time I lose motivation and I can't do that this time. I've been at it too long. I'm so happy you found success too!

    Great attitude! I am also taking my measurements because the scale is the last one to be notified of my weight loss! Sunday is the day and I can't wait!

Keep it up!

    U go girl!!! Measurements seem far more accurate but I cant handle any others than waist and hips. I get all kinda CRAZY (no comment necessary, B emoticon ) tryin to measure biceps, thighs, calves, and anything else. I stick to the two I can def figure out, and then sometimes I still wonder ifIm doin it right - lol. Good job, girlie! U make me so proud! emoticon

    MissB, I don't mind steppin' on the scale, but I never let it tell me anything but numbers. You are so right. Our progress can be found in so many other ways. Benny
