Menopause and Weight Gain

Friday, June 29, 2012

Menopause and weight gain have caused my clothes to feel tighter these days. I've had to start using my biggest size in my closet. I've been asking myself "what happen to my waist?

Can you relate?!?!

I've got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is menopause and weight gain is a common side affect from the hormone changes and slowing metabolism as we get older. emoticon

The good news for me anyway, is I've found a place like this Spark People dot com to help me get rid of the menopause weight gain.

I, like most people find myself in the "in love" phase when starting any type of new project or goal. You know very much like when you are falling in love with someone.

Gradually we all come off of the "in love" high, yet still what to keep moving toward our goal. This is the point where motivation becomes the most critical.

Without the proper motivation it will become increasingly harder to keep up the new exercise and nutrition habits.

The lesson's I've learned from reading the book The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman has helped me to discover ways to keep myself motivated by loving myself enough to speak my own love language to myself.

There are 5 distinct languages we all use to express love:

Words of Affirmation
Quality Time
Gifts
Acts of Service
Physical Touch

I have discovered that my Love Language is Acts of Service. One of the best ways I know to love myself is to follow through with promises I've made to myself. For example, if I decide on Sunday that I am going to follow healthy cooking recipes for the next seven days and I don't, I do begin to since a state of unease almost depression like in myself.

Gary states in his book that people tend to criticize their spouse most loudly in the area where they themselves have the deepest emotional need. I've discovered that I criticize myself the most loudly when I don't follow through on acts of services that will help me workout, eat healthy and feel beautiful. It is as if I have disappointed myself in some way. May sound strange; but true.

I know I am unable to erase my past; however I can make my future different. Getting sexy, fit and healthy is important to me. Knowing my primary love language will help me keep myself going on this fat reduction journey.

Do let me know in your comments if this post helped you in any way. Also, let me know if you've read the book The 5 Love Languages.
