So DH is gone for the week and I made a to-do list while he is gone. One of the things was to keep up with the Virtual 5k challenge that I signed up for. So Sunday morning I laid out my plans for the week; I mapped my routes;I had my timeline. Tuesday before falling asleep, I gave myself a pep talk that after work Wed, I would walk the 2 mile route I had planned. I could do this.

Then comes Wed. and the temperature is 100 degrees. I will not mention the heat index. My route was in the state park, but was full sun as the trail followed the river. All day in my nice air conditioned office I waffled between going for a walk or going home. About 2:00 it hit me....there are shaded trails. It would still be hot, but....I could start and turn around early...I learned where drinking fountains were along the route....I could try and see what happened...

It was AWESOME!!!! It was hot, but it was beautiful! I found wild rasberries (long ago eaten) and wild plums (not near ripening) I saw a fawn (a bit disturbing in the heat). The path was empty and quiet and lovely. The sumac were growing in groves and the dragonflies were so very lazy. I walked 2.33 miles and loved every minute of it. I was drenched in sweat and knew I had not walked fast, but I did it and I feel GREAT knowing that I accomplished it.
