Week 2- What Does and Does Not Work for Me and More Mini Goals

Monday, June 25, 2012

Last week I talked about mini goals the steps I plan to take to get healthy. For me, it is no longer about being thin, it is about being healthy and feeling good. Over the course of the last 40 years or so, I have discovered what does NOT work for me:

Low Fat
Low Carb
Vegetarian (although I do eat very limited meats)
Fad Diets
Wishing it to be true
Unrealistic Goals
Self Hate
Self Sabotage
Feeling Sorry For Myself

Here are a few things that I have discovered do work for me:

Self Acceptance
Understanding that this is a journey and not a race
Nothing off limits- just finding a healthier (physically and mentally) way to enjoy what I want
Making small changes, one or two at a time, to not overwhelm myself
Focusing on today only- yesterday cannot be changed and tomorrow will take care of itself.
Prayer and the power of positive thinking

Last week I made these goals for myself:

1~ 10 minutes (or more) of activity a day.

2~ No High Fructose Corn Syrup!

3~ Water!

Here is how I did:

1~ 10 minutes (or more) of activity a day. ~ I managed this on 4 of the 7 days. I am not counting this as a fail since this is 4X the amount of activity I got the week before.

2~ No High Fructose Corn Syrup! ~ Only slipped on this one once and it was a situation where I was not eating at home so I did not have much control. emoticon

3~ Water! emoticon

Here are my mini goals for this week:

1~ 10 minutes or more of activity a day: I will continue this one until it becomes habit

2~ Pack my lunch every day for work: No lunch out

3~ Get up once an hour from my desk and stretch

How did you do this week?

    did I say emoticon

I've printed the first part of your blog -- your "does not work" for you --- I've found does not work for me. And it looks promising that your "do work for me" --- just might work for me.
In fact I know those things have worked for me in the past -- but no matter what -- the "does not work" list --- really DON'T.

You're doing great! Baby steps, baby steps! Keep focusing on those 10 minutes of exercise every day and before you know it you'll feel yucky if you miss a day! emoticon
