Today I ran just one mile. And it's the exact distance I needed to run.
As part of my Summer of Run Challenge, I am running at least one mile each day. Until the morning, though, I had yet to run that short a distance. I ran 2, 3, 6, and 4 miles. And this morning, I thought about running 2 or 3. But then I thought better of it.
Here's my reasoning. Over the long summer, I will need recovery days. But the longer I put off my first one-mile run, the tougher it would be to run the first one. "Oh, come on, John, you have been running at least two miles for weeks now, don't stop at one mile now!"
By running one mile today, I have taken the pressure off. I can now run any distance, from one mile to a full marathon, and I can feel comfortable doing it. No more over-thinking it. I just have to run.
I'm going to love this challenge!
