Robert's BIG day at KFSM TV Studio Channel 5 and KXNW Channel 34

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Back in October my son (Robert) sent in an application for Jr. Meterologist day in Fort Smith Arkansas on the set of KFSM Channel 5 and KXNW Channel 34 owned by the same station. We received a phone call and email conformation that Robert was picked for the months of June 2012 and October 2012. The producer said that the June slot would be with Meterologist Joe Pennington and the October one would be with Chief Meterologist Garrett Lewis.

We started off the morning yesterday getting ready to go to the Studio. My son asked about wearing shorts. I told him no that they have a dress code at the studio for TV personalities. I told Robert to wear pants. After getting something to eat we were on our way. It took us one hour to arrive at Channel 5 and 34 Studios.

Mr. Pennington took us on a tour of the studios and started with the Early morning set that is used for the morning broadcast and for weekends also.

Then he took us to where the 5,6 and 9 and 10 news casts are filmed from.

The anchor desk.

The green board where the Chrome Key shows up on.

Crew getting ready for the 5 pm news cast. The anchor tonight was in Fayetteville so it was only the camera person and the metorologist.

Robert had his picture taken after the 6 o'clock news cast.

Joe Pennington asked Robert if he would like to do the 10 o'clock weather since he had set through the 5, 6, and 9 news casts. Robert was beaming with excitment.

Robert asked Joe Pennington if he could have another picture for his facebook page. Mr. Pennington said sure.

Mr. Pennington said to come back in October when the weather changes and there will probably be more excitement especially during the week or during severe weather. I told him that I would call him when October comes around and see about a weekday night edition.

Robert fell asleep on the way home. I didn't get back home until midnight.

All in all I think Robert had an emoticon day and learned alot about forecasting.

I hope everyone has a good day with whatever you do.
