It's time for a change so I'm giving this a try! I've struggled with my weight my entire adult life and while I've never been obese, I've been getting closer and closer as I get older. Since I hit my 30's I've noticed the difference and it's a lot harder to lose the weight. I recently calculated my waist:hip ratio and found that at my current measurements I'm at high risk for developing diabetes, high blood pressure and all that other nasty stuff. I've done Weight Watchers off and on for the last 5 or 6 years and I've been trying to get back into it since the new year but just haven't had the motivation. Maybe I need a change?
So this is it! I'm putting my foot down and giving this a go! I've recently started taking Krav Maga classes once a week and I'm going on a short jog twice a week with the hopes of adding on distance as I go.
My real demon though, has always been food. And that's where I'm hoping Spark People will come in. With the mobile app and barcode scanning I'll have no excuse to not track what I'm eating. Watching the calorie tally for the day really makes me think twice about whether or not I really need a snack. "Hmmm, is the satisfaction I'm going to get from these Goldfish crackers really work the calories?"
My goals are pretty simple. I want to lose 35 lbs at about a pound a week, so I should be hitting my goal around Feb 2013. Another major goal is for me to get my waist:hip ratio down below 0.8, which is associated with low risk of weight-related health issues. If my hips stay the size they are, that means losing 3 inches from my waist....but I think I can do better than that! And my final goal is a fitness one. Living in the Bay Area, I've always watched the famous Bay-to-Breakers race but never participated. Next year, I'm running it! It's a 7 mile (12K) run across San Francisco and I think it'll be the perfect way to mark all that I hope to achieve in the next year.
Wish me luck!!!
