Morning people are Happier! Really, Seriously they just need to die.

Friday, June 22, 2012

I came across a blog on CNN about an article that said that morning people are more joyous.

So, what do you think about that. I am so not a morning person, but I am not a slug-a-bed either. I just would prefer to not have to get up before 8 am and to not try and force myself asleep before midnight. That is my body's natural rhythm.

I have tried for YEARS to wake up early to get a jump on the day, but it is a habit that never sticks. I would love to walk up at 6 am so I can have a quick workout and breakfast before work, but it just doesn't happen. I had so much hope for working second shift (3-11). My ideal schedule would run 10 or 11 am to 7 or 8 pm for work, but that shift doesn't exist. That option was taken away. So I'm back to the 8:30 to 5:30 grind.

This article/blog made a good point. Our society is geared toward morning people. And for those of us that are not morning people we have to force ourselves to comform to what society says we have to be. Kinda like those skinny models they say are the ideal sexy woman.

I often wonder if that is why I am always tired and I always have trouble getting to sleep. I am fighting my biology. I only get 5-6 hours of sleep most nights. My doctor keeps telling me to try to get 7-8, go to bed a little earlier. I do and I lay there awake till 12 anyway.

This sleep defict is killing me. There are studies that show it can make you grumpy and hinder your weight loss efforts. You need 8 hours of rest. Yeah, tell that to my boss and see if he'll let me come in later.

I got 1 glorious week of second shift. I got up when I was ready, I worked out for hour to hour and a half. I cooked and I cleaned and was not exhausted. I got home from work and would relax, watch some TV and then go to be between 12-1 am. If they bring 2nd back, I am going to beg for it. I feel I would be much healthier and happier that way.

Maybe I have the same problem. I honestly never thought of it that way. I wake up at 8:30 or so, I go to be at 11-12:30.... If it's different than that, I rely on coffee, which probably isnt good for you....

When I worked in a factory, I LOVED 3pm-11pm shifts. When I worked in the lab, I worked 11am-7pm, and that was awesome. I guess we just go against the grain, eh? We are such rebels :P

I know how you feel! My parents told me that you do all of your learning in the morning. (They are both teachers) So.. freshman year of college... 8:30 AM classes every day... I got put on probation at the end of my first semester. lol. After that, I stopped listening to them. I made sure I had no classes before 10:30, and I was able to get out of university with just under a 3.0, which I don't think is all that bad considering I almost flunked out. Plus... If you have to wake up before you are ready, you just feel sick and flu-ish and out of it the whole day! It's gross!

Ok, so I am that person you hate. I don't function much after 11pm. I did have a job once at 7-11 where I worked 11pm-7am akkk. I rarely sleep past 7 and even then its hardly ever past 9 even when I'm up half the night. I like to be up and at the park early to walk/run. The old geezers are nicer than the younger folk that are there in the evenings and its not crowded. Its also cooler. Go find a job in security. The pay sucks, but 2nd or 3rd shift is pretty easy to get.
