The Heat

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Okay....I'm just gonna put it out there.... I HATE (bold, italicized, underlined, 3 font sizes bigger) THE HEAT!!!

It's more than just the normal "oh it's hot".... I have a reason to fear the heat!! It makes me pass out...... Well, it happened once, when I was a teenager, but I'm guessing it's not something that would be better with me being older now. Taking into consideration the fact that there were extenuating circumstances involved with the events of my youth, it was still enough to scare the crap out of me!

Usually my family just prepares for me to be ultra lazy & grumpy and I lay around making the best of it. But yesterday, for some reason, I got myself all worked up about the heat. The forecast was for 2 days of 90+ degrees with high humidity....YUCK! Now I work in a really nicely air conditioned office (actually we didn't even have to turn the a/c on until late afternoon because the building still had some "winter cool" left) but I knew I was going to have to go out to get the mail....sure wasn't going to let the 85 yr old boss go out in the heat....and I had to do a lunch run. For some reason it caused a full-on anxiety attack. Now, when I went out to get the mail it was only 85 so it wasn't bad. Still not yet 90 for the lunch run so all that fuss for nothing! So I spent the afternoon talking myself down & eventually beating myself up for being sooooo silly!

Today I'm much more laid back. The humidity isn't so bad & I only had to go get the mail (it was 90 by that time today).

Isn't it crazy the trips our minds can take us on!?!?!? I am super glad that there are cooler temps for this weekend while we camp (no a/c in sight!) I just hope this 90 degree stuff doesn't become "the norm"..... I really HATE it!

I'm with you Kris anything more than 90* and I am trying to find a nice dark, cool corner to stay in. Tomorrow it's suppose to get to 104* in KY and I'm already looking at things I can do inside in the AC (I don't have AC) maybe a nice really long trip to the library tomorrow. ~Kelly

120s here for most of the summer. And it's humid. And shorts and tank tops, etc., are culturally inappropriate.

After 4 years, I have actually acclimated a lot. I can go out and run - before dawn or after dusk, that is. It's still like running through a sauna. LOL

Good luck!

You and I are a little alike. I had heat exhaustion as a teen and since have a problem when I get hot, my blood pressure goes up and I get a headache as well as a beet red face and sweating. It's all part of the former heat exhaustion. I do tolerate it a little better since "aging" (like a fine wine) but doing the camper setup at each stop without the A/C is a big problem. My DH tells me to go in, turn it on, and take my time while he does all the outside work. I like to help him but he is right so I go in doing little things until the unit cools. So sweatin' to the oldies etc isn't for me!! Gentle exercises or ones I can stay cool with are. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yeah, I'm with you on the heat...always say I'd rather it too cold than too can bundle up against the cold...but the heat...? No A/C in our home...I shower off and sleep with the fan on, hoping for the best.

Unfortunately, the heat is likely to become more & more of a nuisance:

I'm praying that my cycling treks ahead aren't plagued by TOO much of this weather....!

Wanna swap? We're in winter now and we're lucky to reach 10 degrees celcius

I don't know where you are, but I live in Florida and 90+ is the RULE in the summer with plenty of humidity to go along with it. I just wilt in the summer and feel like doing nothing.

We recently bought a Kinnect for our xbox though, and the two games we have for it really make you work up a sweat. My son and I do it in the AC in front of a fan and that helps.

I feel your pain, but there ARE ways around it!
