Momentary Voluntary Self-Inflicted Moronism

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Do you also suffer from it? emoticon

It was 90 degrees with a heat index making it feel like 93. I decide that I am going to go on my usual 5 mile walk at the park-weather be damned. Yeah-great idea.

I believe I gave myself a heat stroke.

Why is it that my stubbornness only works to my detriment? Why, I say why?

So on my 2.5 mile stumble back to my car. (I walk 2.5 miles out and 2.5 miles back there is no way to short-cut it) I was obviously hot, nauseous, dizzy, weak, mildly disoriented and I had difficultly breathing. Then there was the most ferocious headache I have ever had in my life. As soon as I got back to my car I cranked the air and drove to the vending machine, paid 2 dollars for a water and guzzled it. When i got home I got another bottle of water, laid down, and fell asleep. When I woke up I didn't feel any better but I took a shower. After my shower I was freezing. I am under a blanket now.

This is the point where I took some meds for the headache and ate a healthy snack. I do feel slightly better. My head still hurts but not as intensely, I am still dizzy, but I am starting to feel hungry.

(all of this nonsense because I was too stubborn to take a shorter walk. Ugh)

Lesson Learned

I, Carrie, do so solemnly swear to never ever do that again.

I am counting on you, my spark friends, to keep me on the path to righteousness! lol

I fit the walks in when I can. I prefer to do them earlier. I knew how hot it was but I HAD to do something. My exercising has been less than stellar lately (2-3 days a week. when it had been 5-6 days a week for about 6 months)

Lesson learned though stubborness will not win over 90 degree heat. lol

Today I am working out indoors. I am reformed ;)

Yes, more careful would have been prudent. LOL Apparently it wasn't on the agenda today...kinda clashed with my M.V.S.I.M. ;)

Thanks for the well wishes. I am starting to feel a little better.

Katy- i always swell in the heat-family trait, however today my fingers swelled so bad that I couldnt straighten them. The bones ached so bad.

What were we thinking? (Bet neither one of us will do it again though!)

OMG, I did a similar thing a couple years ago on an equally hot and miserable day because of a misapprehension that it'd make me lose more weight. Walked about four miles along the river until I was so miserable that I finally convinced myself to turn around. My hands and feet swelled to ridiculous proportions and I developed the headache from hell too.

Feel better.
