Just storming

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Wow, just found out that the storm that blew through during overnight in the twin cities was ranked as one of the 15 worst ever. The winds reach 75 mph and did a lot of damage and the clean up cost and electrical restoring will have a price tag of 2 million dollars. That was the second night straight we had severe storms go through overnight, and tonight very likely will make it three as it is hot and muggy again today. Just another week of Mn. weather, but the temps will be lowering starting tomorrow--thank goodness.

I'm about 25 miles southwest of Duluth and sure have never seen anything like the flooding in my lifetime. We are about 10 miles from the St. Louis River/Jay Cooke State Park and it's unbelievable how much road is just gone, not to mention the Swinging Bridge in Jay Cooke, which was washed away. If any of you have ever been on that, just imagine the water that high!

My oh my. We really need the rain...our lawns are burning out despite sprinklers because no one can afford to run the sprinklers twice a day and long enough to water the lawns.

Raining here again and having flooding issues. Nothing like Duluth though - most roads closed and many damaged as well as homes flooded to the point that windows are bursting out. Must be bad when they close Hwy 35.

Yes, they have been rather frightening! I was up a good share of the night last night with the strobe light lightening and continuous thunder for over and hour as well as the winds and damage. We have lucked out on both storms here but wondering what the night is going to bring us. We were in Detroit Lakes over the weekend and I heard tonight they had some major damage there last night too including larger hail. Wouldn't have been very good staying in our camper!! Hang in there and this too shall pass (we hope!!).
