My 75 year old mother inspired me with those words this past year. It is a theme she lives by and I'm determined to live by it too. You're never too old to do something about your weight, or about the list of things in your life that are out of order.
But for some of us, there is a moment when you look at the scale or at the situations and you think...it's just too much. I can't climb out of the ditch I've dug for myself or the one I've let others bury me in.
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO REINVENT YOURSELF! How does one do it? Not by aiming for the stars. Aiming for the stars is for young people with the advantage of a whole life in front of them. Unfortunately, for many young people today, they are sitting back thinking I have my whole life ahead...I can coast for a while. A while, sadly, can last so long that one day they wake up and they're 30 and wondering, where did my life go? To them I say also! It's never too late to reinvent yourself. It's never too late to TURN AROUND and head in a different direction!
How does one do it, when they look around and see nothing but "a mess"... A mess which seems like Mt. Everest looming down on them. Here's how:
Don't set your sight on the top of the mountain. At first, perhaps, you will need to set your sight on two steps up or ONE! But set your sights there and determine to make those two steps. Gradually, one BABY STEP at a time, you will find yourself acting differently and thinking differently because as you take those steps, scientists have proven, you begin to open new pathways in your brain. These new pathways are the start of you thinking differently about yourself and about your life and about others. Just as taking a baby step and acting differently lead to thinking differently, so thinking differently leads to more acting differently. One day you'll look up from your labor and realize...you've reinvented yourself and the world is a better place for it. Your sphere of influence is greater than you think. People will begin to look at you and see HOPE. If you can do it...so can they.
You don't have to stay stuck in a ditch. You're never too old to reinvent yourself! Don't neglect the role that faith and prayer play in this. Our God is with us and has great plans for us. But we must do what only WE can and leave Him to do all the stuff we have NO CONTROL over. Leave it with Him and be at peace with knowing the God of the universe can handle the big stuff. You just stick to doing something about the stuff YOU CONTROL.
That's my thought for the day. I'm living it now. At 55, I just embarked on a completely new career and having so much fun discovering this whole new side of myself! Who knows what opportunities await me as I walk through this open door!
Don't know and not concerned cause the only thing I know is: I'm NOT STUCK ANYMORE! I'm moving forward! Strangely, my weight, which was stuck too...is moving down as I'm moving UP!
YOUR NEVER TOO OLD TO REINVENT YOURSELF!
