Food Journal Confessions (Day 1)

So I am recommitting to being more diligent on my Primal Diet. I had been bad on re-introducing bread into my diet and that was a slippery slope to diet coke. Now I have to cut out my diet cokes and the bread.

But I know I can do this! I have done it before and actually have been able to maintain my weight loss pretty easily even with the last month of being off plan.

So here goes! Day 1 Food Journal below.


So far I have eaten:

9:AM Breakfast: 1 small coffee with Almond milk and 2 sugars (8 carbs)
1 sm. TJ yogurt 20 carbs
10AM Snack: 1 hot tea with 2 sugars (8 carbs)
11:30AM Early lunch: 1 chicken leg, 1 baby bell, veggies (squash and glazed carrots)
Snack: Luna bar 24 net carbs/ 28carbs plus 4 fiber
2PM 1 chicken leg, 1 baby bell, veggies (squash and glazed carrots)
3:30PM snack cinnamon almonds (20 pieces- 10 carbs)
Water: 2 bottles of Crystal light. 1.5 cans of soda.

Note: need to pick up cottage cheese at TJ and some more low carb options for snacks and meals. Do not really have my meals planned out well so far.

Here is what I ate once I left work and went to the grocery stores.

Not the best choices. But hey I did put back the bag of chips I wanted to buy. :)

Pre-dinner snack: snack cinnamon almonds (20 pieces- 10 carbs), 3 carb covered malt balls (10 carbs)
*Went to the store and was so overwhelmed with snack cravings.
Dinner: diet coke, sm piece of mock quiche (4 carbs), bowl of safeway loaded potato soup (28 carbs), 1 sm. Piece of bread (panera- 30 carbs), 2 pieces of bacon, spoon of coconut butter (4 carbs).
Over all carbs (Over 150 carbs prob. 200)

As you can see I can definitely do better when eating low carb but the nice thing at this point in my eating plan is that I am willing to eat a little bad as long as for the most part I eat on plan. I do not feel guilty or beat myself for wanting a high carb item nor do I deprive myself and then over do it once I finally give in.

I really feel like I know how to eat and how to maintain this as a long term lifestyle. Some days I am really good to stick to a plan but most days I do 80/20 and seem to be able to still lose a little bit of weight.

I would love to shed my last 15 pounds quickly but I am also not willing to deprive myself and eat bland tasteless food. Sometimes just eating this primal plan of more protein makes me feel deprived (j/k). But I know it is the right plan for me.

Last night I even threw out all of my frozen carb treats to help me stick to it better.

These simple victories are what help me see my progress.

    Okay so I started out strong but with the summer and my lover off for diet soft drinks I have been really bad on my soda intake. I know all the studies on how bad they are for me and I do notice a shift in the way I eat and crave things when I drink them but I am addicted to the taste. I like to dirnk water when I am exercising but generally not as a way to just drink. I find it tasteless and boring and only drink it as a way to get my water goal done. (and haven't been doing that for months). But today I weighed in at a whopping 191 (PMS) and really need to get back to eating and drinking right.

I will work on not drinking it at night and go from there. I noticed since I have drinking for caffine at night I am having trouble going to sleep and staying alseep. So I wake up multiple times during the night and then can't wake up when the alarm goes off.

Since I want to start work 30-45 minutes earlier than my current schedule I will need to NOT drink caffinated drinks after 5PM.

    You are doing SO well with this low carb plan. I can hear the positivity in your blogging and that's what it's ALL about...just keep working at the plan and know that you are headed in the right direction. I try my best to listen to my body and what it wants...if it's junk, I ask..okay then...now what's your NEXT choice that is from the 'healthy list'...I can usually find one. And...that's because I don't let JUNK come into my house any more..it's simply an unwelcome guest! emoticon

    So I am well on my way back to eating on plan. But I noticed last week that one of the side effects for me of low carbing is insomnia. Which I hate! Since it makes me grumpy and lowers my immune system.

So I have been bumping up both my carbs and my exercising. Ihave been getting a bit more rest but now have my horrible flu like symptoms back. Geez if it's not one thing it is another with my crazy body.

    Day 2 and doing much better. Went home last night and made a big mock quiche to take with me for the next couple days (breakfast) and also picked up some broccoli salad to bring as my veggies options for lunch. I need to steam my green beans and the rest of my broccoli tonight and figure out my next protein option. I have about 4 steaks and a couple of chicken breasts in the freezer that need to be defrosted but wouldn't mind making something new. Maybe I will try my hand at the Tai soup I bought and TJ's last night. I also have 2 soft heirloom tomatoes I would love to use (hate to waste those things since they are expensive) but not sure what to do since I hate soft tomatoes. I might pick up some ground turkey or beef and make a ground meat and tomato dish with them or better yet make a veggie ratatouille with them.

    A food journal is a great way to keep track of what you actually eat and to see where you can improve.
