Wisconsin (Half) Marathon Race Report

Monday, June 18, 2012

Yes, this race was over a month agao, and yes, I am going to attempt to write up a report on it. I will be putting this on the schedule for 2013 because it was a LOT of fun. The course was realy pretty, and the medals were awesome.

I had some difficulties with this race. The run was very similar to Lincoln. I was in a large amount of pain by the end. I basically limped to the end photographers, faked it for the last snapsots and was thrilled when it was finally over. I can't wait to go back in good health and physical condition and do this one again. Maybe next year it won't be raining! The rain did let up by the start of the race and held off until we were done. I have never really thought the space blankets did anything, but after this race I had never been so glad to be wrapped in a piece of mylar in my life!!! OH and on the way back to the car Jim and I both spotted a $20 bill on the sidewalk. I was in no shape to chase after it, so Jim did!!

After we got checked in and stopped by packet pick up we went across the street to Capt Mikes Burger and Beer for, well, a burger and a beer. Fun place if you ever find yourself in Kenosha, WI! Great food and an overwhelming selection of beer! Laurie and I headed to the Cracker Barrel next to our hotel for some dessert (we split two) and Jim went back to the hotel for his cigar.

Like I said, the next morning it was raining. All of our weather apps said it would clear by Start time, and so it did. Although, it was a soggy walk to the start!!!! I was feeling pretty darn good, and we were making good time, enjoying the scenery, and snapping alot of hen around Mile 11 I got a VERY sharp pain in my foot and I was done. Laurie went a head of me because there was no way I was going to be able to keep up. We endded up finishing together because that is what we do, but I was in pain. Looking at the pictures from the Finish, I can see it in my smile, that I was trying to hide it. It is fun, it was finished, and I can't wait to do it again!

My pictures are not in order. I feel lazy about putting them in order, but here they are!

Ok, I LOVE the medal. So cool.

That side of our state is really pretty, well almost anywhere in the state is nice.

Good job on the race and good thing is was cool and rainy. Two other races in our state were canceled and shorted due to high heat.

Too bad the foot caused problems, next year you will rock it.

I am glad you had fun in spite of the pain--isn't it funny how that happens?!
It looks cold. I am glad you enjoyed yourself and took pictures.
