Fathers day! GOOD day, BAD day and finished very well. WooHoo!

Sunday, June 17, 2012

This morning was a lovely day and I wanted to do a bit more yard work and ride in the RV.
DH brought his shoes out to try on again with his brace and he found an additional 10% off coupon in the bag. He never told me about it and he forgot it was there.
I told him we spent over $100 on the items we would have saved over $10.00. He said it would not cover the gas, I had told him I should have asked them to computer search the other outlets for shoes for me, I just did not think about it in the store.
Our neighbor called to ask us to let her dog out, we planned to be there. I went down stairs to take in a pair of pants and DH went to check the RV. He discovered the house batteries are dead. Our other neighbor came over to talk and next thing I knew. they were checking the batteries. One of them was dry. The batteries are very hard to get to so we decided we would take the RV in to the tire and Battery place we use so we can get the inner tires checked and new batteries. Makes it easier on us.

DH went to let the dog out. I went down stairs and then remembered there were clothes in the dryer. I came upstairs to the bathroom where we have the washer and dryer and as I stood folding clothes I heard a strange noise. I went to the bathroom window and saw DH stumbling around near the pool. I went out through the kitchen and realized he was coughing and wheezing. Then I saw he was soaking wet and the patio was wet too. I helped him to sit on the steps and I knew from his face he was in a daze. I took off his 2 day old shoes, took off his brace and he emptied his pockets to check his paper social security card was ok. It was and his wallet was dry too, that was a relief. I waited till he was breathing better and I asked what had happened.
The pool is still covered, no need to open it kids will not be here for another week and DH had been making sure he kept the water off the cover.
He usually puts in a pump and runs it till the hose empties in to the drain in the street. We switch off the pump and the water siphons down to the road it saves a lot of electricity that way.
As he threw the pump in to the water his foot slipped on the water bag and he fell right in to the water.
He went through the cover and it pulled in three water bags and a concrete block. There are no ladders in or steps and the sides are very slippy. DH has a hip, knee problem and his brace on one foot. He was fully clothed and in DENIMS. He had struggled to get out and that was why he was coughing so bad. He held his breath struggling and he ended up coughing and wheezing. I sat beside him till his breath was more steady then I removed his shoes. He realized he was wearing his new shoes bought 2 days ago. I told him they would dry, he did so well getting out I was proud of him and told him so. He began to laugh and that was a relaxing relief. I had been ready to call 911 A few minutes ago.
Then he stopped laughing and looked up at me, I knew as soon as I saw his face he was having a flash back to when he was 7 years old and he fell in to a reservoir from a vertical wall. His older sister dragged him out, she was furious with him and on arriving home she was punished for not taking better care of him and she should not have been anywhere near the reservoir.
DH told me the story after we had put in the pool for me and the kids. I had NO IDEA he could not swim till then and we had been married for 6 years at least. We only had 2 sons when we put the pool in. I insited he went to aduly swim lessons at the Y otherwise I wanted the pool filled in. He went he did learn but he is not happy in deep water.
I took him indoors and helped him out of his wet clothes and in to the bath. He is a shower person but his shower is downstairs and he was too unsteady on his feet so I insisted he just relaxed in the tub.
He got out and I had taken his splint apart and put it in the sun to dry. Then I ate lunch. He was not hungry but he suggested we go to the shoe factory again. He loves to drive so it would calm him anyway. I called and told them I had the coupon and they said they had shoes in my size now, If I bring in the slip and the products she would give us the other discount.
We drove there. I got another 10% off all of his things from yesterday since it was only on MENS clothes. We bought for DH, SON and GS. They were all adjusted and the young lady pointed out I would have 10% off with the coupon for my shoes.

WOO HOO I got my NEW WALKERS AFTER ALL!

So the day went as it should have done,it was nice. On the way home DH wanted to eat , we went to the Golden Arches I tried their new Blueberry oatmeal and liked it and DH had his fish sandwich lunch and a coffee.

Once we were home his brace was all dry so I was able to put it back together.

I had planned all day to make Parmesan chicken with Tomato-Basil salad a Spark recipe in the week of salads. I had no fresh basil so I used Newman’s own balsamic, my favorite. The chicken was excellent, the meal was excellent too and we had a nice evening. We watched a PBS show about Buckingham Palace.
I did go out to saw down more juniper branches this will be the fourth Pick Up truck load for the dump.
I did not earn many Spark points but I am a happy camper DH is over his dip.

Good for Fred for learning to swim as an adult and for getting out of the pool when he fell in. Gary is not a good swimmer either. I found that out on one of our first dates. He went with me out to a dock at a lake swimming area and barely made it with his dog paddle. I had to give him credit for courage to do it.

So glad to hear that DH is okay after falling into the pool. That must have been a very scary time for the both of you. And of all the days it had to happen on was Fathers Day. Hope the pool man can fix it so it can never happen again. Like leave a ladder in the pool at all time and maybe a fence? This are suggestions only. It is something to think about.Glad the rest of the day went much better for you and DH. God Bless You and Have a Wonderful Week.

I'm so very glad to hear that dh is ok. Reading that gave me a scare. And I'm glad he got to drive. The best thing we can do after something like that is something we love to do. Yay for turning the day around. Way to go, Pat!

I was totally freaked out by the story. Things could have ended a lot different. You and he both will have to be careful around that pool. Thank God he was spared.

Pat, That must of been a really scary time. I am very happy that your husband is alright now. I can imagine how scared he must of been. It could of been a really bad event. I am glad that someone was watching over him.

It was good that you were able to get his brace all dried out and that his wallet and important things didn't get wet.

Getting the discount for all the items you bought before was really nice of the person at the store. It was good that they honored it and you were able to get your pair of shoes too.

I am very happy that everything worked out ok all around. It was good that the day got a good ending.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Love, Your Friend, Dot

That was a close call for your husband! Yikes, so many things could have gone wrong there, especially with the cover still in place! So happy he is ok! emoticon
I almost drowned once, trying to teach someone to swim, she panicked and jumped on top of my shoulders in the deep end!!! I started to try to get her off and waved my arms and was treading at the same time-some good Samaritan pulled her off of me just in time! I never did THAT again! Deep water to this day scares me! I totally understand how your hubby feels! Glad all worked out with your shopping and discounts! Have a good day! emoticon
