Saved by Pre-Tracking Nutrition. Try it!

Friday, June 15, 2012

I am a pretty good nutrition tracker.

When I am really on the ball, I will track my whole day (or at least my Breakfast & Lunch)
before I even eat it.

This is helpful, because today I tracked that I'd eat a wheat bagel & peanut butter for breakfast.

I didn't like the way those numbers looked (yikes!) so I switched out with an egg & cheese wrap.

180 calories vs what would have been 539!

Way to dodge a bullet....!

& Now I can have a fruit salad this afternoon with my lunch for still less calories.

Win win.

If you are new, or are not tracking~ try pre-tracking. It really helps me.

I know it works, but that doesn't mean I do it everyday ... Thank you for the reminder that it works:)

In the summer (when I have time) I pre-track probably 85% of the time and what a difference it makes! It's like a puzzle. If I know there's definitely a food I want to include, I can tweak all of my other meals to fit around that. In fact, today, I was getting a rare treat of a Smashburger and smashfries. Because I pre-tracked, I was able to design my other meals accordingly and still came in just under cals today (granted my other nutritional values aren't where I'd like them to be, but to be able to have this rare treat--worth it!)! Woohoo!! Had I not pre-tracked I might have thought "what the heck, I'm sure I blew it, so I might as well have brownie from Paradise Bakery after the burger." But because I knew I'd be able to stay in calories...I resisted the brownie! Woohoo!!

Excellent save on your bagel vs. egg wrap! No less filling, equally yummy, but wow! Half the calories! Way to go!

I totally agree with you! I often pre-track. I find it so much easier to follow my plan when I can map everything out the evening before rather than scrambling to figure out what I can eat in the middle of a hectic day. If I change my mind and want something different from what I've planned, I just make the adjustment on my tracker.

It's a huge help to pre-track breakfast & lunch. I too swap out when I notice the calorie count it too high even though the protein, carbs, and fat might be in line.

Pre-tracking is the way to go as long as you are not indecisive at dinner time and stick to the plan. I'm notorious for entering items and then changing my mind at the last minute because it just isn't what I want, so I'm tracking twice. But, I guess twice is better than not at all.

Planning does = success. Way to go!

I usually pre-track breakfast & lunch which really helps me plan dinner and snacks. The food tracker is the most valuable tool on Spark, in my opinion!

    Great job on swapping breakfasts!

I do that too sometime. Bagels are certainly a landmine. LOL.

I have been doing that since I started on this website--it really helps me to plan for the day.

I really rely on pre-tracking. I usually pre-track breakfast and lunch which tells me a good calorie range for dinner. Saves me from making bad decisions too late and not being able to do anything about it. At least I'm making educated decisions and not just blindly going into it. Good save on your breakfast!

Nice swap! I pry and pre track my whole week. But it can get messy if you end up changing your mind. :)
