Wisdom to Rest

Thursday, June 14, 2012

Food preparation, in shape, living to work, working to live -- we do it. When do we not "do it"? That is where prayer, meditation, rest fill the gaps. There is a certain fear in being still. What is being left undone? The same feeling that you get when you are doing activity as exercise, and you feel compelled to be listening to music for distraction, or to talk with someone as you workout. It's that feeling which sometimes masks an overall fear of doing this something "alone". Once you are a confirmed person who exercises, you don't notice that alone - ness: you just move, and do your thing.

Our bodies, souls and minds crave the moments of stillness and the time to rest.

Sleep tight, take time to reflect -- the other important activities of your life will still be there -- choose wisdom, choose rest.

I have found that many co-workers enjoy doing their workouts with me at the office gym, but me personally, I would rather be alone with the DVD player. When I'm not going to work out alone, I agree, I still need that alone time, if only to regroup & refocus. People think I'm crazy walking inside the mall hallways, arms & legs flailing as I really get into the groove. But that's MY time. And not even The Boss can take that away from me. :-D

Well said. I love being around others teaching and motivating but when it comes to my own personal well-being and fitness goals I prefer to be alone. and rest I much as I can.
