What resonates with you?

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

I'm re-reading one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy series - The Ephemera Series by Anne Bishop: Sebastian, Belladonna, and Bridge of Dreams.

I love the premise behind these books, which is that you can only reach that which truly resonates with your heart. Your heart can carry currents of Light and currents of Dark, what resonates with you can and does change; however, you do hold within you the power to direct yourself and to choose the focus on what resonance inside yourself is strongest.

In this series, a great darkness attacked the world and the people. In order to isolate the evil behind the dark power, the guides of the heart "broke the world" into pieces. Now, you cannot necessarily walk from one piece of the world to another; however, you can walk across a "resonating" bridge, which will read your heart and send you to the piece of the world with which you are resonating.

Great books. I love and recommend them to sci-fi/fantasy lovers.

What does all this have to do with SparkPeople?

For me, I have found that Sparkpeople resonates with me. I enjoy the learning experience. It's a blast earning points, even though the points net me no material gain. Note, I did not say "no gain," just no MATERIAL gain. I do benefit from the points - they give me a mental boost and are recognition of me taking the steps to learn about health & nutrition or to enact what I have learned.

Walking for exercise "resonates" with me; running does not. Working out at home, using my mini-trampoline or dumbbells is "in tune" for me going to a gym is not; although attending a yoga class does resonate.

We have to tune our hearts and minds to resonate in a positive way, so that when we cross those "resonating bridges" (read food & exercise choices), we end up where it's best for us.

I think I'd have to say evening work outs resonate with me. Work outs at home in my living room or in my driveway. I am working on the healthy eating mentality but to be brutally honest I love my junk food. I don't think i will ever give it up completely. They will probably become occasional treats as I learn to make healthier decisions. nice post!

Interesting train of thought there with much truth behind it If we don't love & enjoy it we surely aren't going to do it or eat it

Used to be, kettle chips and M&Ms resonated with me, too many times. How sad is that?
I'm trying to change that, and it's good that you remind us to "tune our hearts and minds to resonate in a positive way." I like the way that sounds.

I'm expanding my options for cardio beyond the usual walking program, to beat boredom and keep me going. I'm thinking of sports and physical activities that resonate with me (badminton=yes / in-line skating=no). Because the more tools we have at our disposal, the better able we are to make the right choices when we have to cross one of those resonating bridges.

Thanks for that great visual!
Carol
