mud run!

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

after the recent rains that have trekked across texas, we've been blessed with muddy back roads... one of my favorite past times is dropping the truck in to 4 wheel drive and tearing up some trails. well, last night, we found a trail that almost tore us up. literally. we were frame deep in bottomless mud. around here, that's what we call mud that is so soupy and squishy that it seems like the more you dig out the faster it comes back in. we got one tire off into the bottomless mud and we immediately started to sink... SCARY!!! luckily we were able to keep it mainly on sturdy ground. after 3 hours of digging - getting nowhere i might add. we took off to the nearest blacktop road. YES, WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF BFE & YOU GOTTA PURDY MOUTH... the "short" trip was a little over 2 miles. I was covered in mud from my elbows to hands and from my knees to my feet. it was 10:00pm - pitch black.... needless to say we started walking... walking turned to jogging..... jogging turned into a fat girl traipsing thru the mud tripping over muddy feet, stumbling, and laughing hysterically bc i thought we were being chased by cattle. well, we were in fact being chased by cattle, however, they were securely enclosed in a fenced in pasture. all in all it was a fun night, i've never laughed so hard, sweat so much, or run so fast in my entire life. too bad all workouts can't be like that!!
after our 2 mile venture to the blacktop, we were able to get enough signal to activate gps and call a tow truck.... the 1st tow company came out and got about mile to where we were stuck and decided they couldn't get back there with the equipment they had. so, back to square one... another tow company comes out and gets a little further down the road and decides they can't do it either. luckily, some crazy high school kids out pig hunting at 1:30 in the morning happened to be going down this dark and desolate road we were on. they were just young and dumb enough to go down the muddy road we did. FINALLY! after 6 hours of digging, running, and trying to get out, we finally broke free of the bottomless mud that consumed us!
