Taking Care of Business

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

...means taking care of the boss. And that's me.

My fibromyalgia has been really bad for two years now. Stress agrivates my symptoms, for sure, and I think I took the running thing a bit too far (for me). I did not need to do a half marathon. Who was I fooling? Well that was two years ago and I'm on the road back to feeling better, thanks to

- a naturopathic doctor -- vitamin B shots are delicious; they give me energy to make it through rough weeks (I also take B5 and D supplements daily)
- acupuncture -- I can't believe I was ever a skeptic; a treatment gives me up to two weeks of reduced pain
- chiropractic -- it had been three years since I'd been
- massage -- insurance pays, so why don't I take advantage more often?

I saw my chiropractor, Dr. Leslie, today. She runs. After a very gentle adjustment -- it hurts to be touched -- she sent me home with a prescription to "take two walks and see me next week". Part two of that prescription is that I'm not supposed to do house or yardwork anymore. Working out, done right, is easier on a body than housework. Now she tells me! I wish insurance would pay for a maid.

One day I WILL be back to lifting weights -- gawd, I miss that! -- swimming lanes and running (but only 10K or less).

Baby steps are progress.

...Pam

It's hard to remember, but you're right - even baby steps are steps in the right direction. Glad you're finding ways to take care of yourself now. Enjoy the benefits!

That's right, gorgeous! Taking care of number one is what it's all about. Love the spirit and the determination.

Go get 'em, Tiger.

I am interested in all aspects of your therapy and wish I were doing them. There are no naturopaths here though. No acupuncture either that I am aware of. A friend of mine is head of the local college massage therapy school and has offered me discounts but I would have to drive 25 miles. My close friend works for a chiropractor and he is cheap so I have been checking into going to him. I hear you on the housework. I need an prescription to avoid it as well. LOL.

I 100% agree with your doctor, daily stresses of housework is worse then working out!!! Yardwork is even worse!!! Send me to the gym ANYDAY but ask me to clean my condo... NO THANKS! LOL

Sounds like you have found the right tools to a healthy PAM. Sounds a lot like my road to recovery too! I never did get a vitamin B shot... wonder if it would have sped up my nerve healing?

Missed you! XOXO

What, insurance doesn't pay for maids in Canada?! Well, that changes everything. Here I was with my bags packed, ready for the cold! Oh well, back to the drawing board!

Glad to hear that you are on the mend and putting #1 first!
