I held back from going to the gym yesterday as I'd done 5 out of 7 days of mixed, yet intense training. My body was clearly tired . I'm moving into a training regime where are am pushing it. My strength is clearly improving as is my speed. It seems my body is telling me that this is no longer just about losing fat.
The days rest paid off. After a long set of meetings I hit the gym. The gym is nearly a desert now as all the students are leaving for summer. Rowing boasted a good PR and I improved on all lower split exercises in terms of weight. Deadlifts are now passing my PR for this year and I still have a lot in me. Power clean was more comfortable this time round - even with heavier weights. Again I'm attributing this to the rest I took.
When I reach maintenance I'm planning for fewer gym sessions but they will be far more focussed on intensity in order to build strength and VO2 max (using HIIT). Only three days a week doesn't sound a lot and I'll reduce the slots to one hour but.. I believe increaasing intensity will be the key.
Someone I work I work with genuinely inquired about my weight loss and was clearly supportive as he's a keen athlete. In contrast a women who I find little favor with asked about my weight loss and then preempted the answer with a stricken look and asked "are you seriously ill?" - the old weight loss must equal cancer in someone one you don't like sort of statement.
As "Gettingstronger" observed.. my wardrobe is a disaster. I bought two smaller sets of trousers - one 38 inch waist - one 36 inch. To get me through the weight drop at work. I thought the 38 inch trousers had got far too baggy to wear so I was going to switch to the 36 inch waist. You got it. i was already wearibg the 36 inch waist trousers. A shopping trip is in order.
My shirts are good quality and still fit well around my shoulders.. BUT. Around my middle they do "bag out" a bit.
The crying shame is my Armani suit. $1000 of bespoke tailoring. Worn three times when I was 245 pounds. It is now beyond use :(....
Weigh in in two days. BUT I will also rest tomorrow... I'm looking for value and efficiency in training sessions now, not just fat burn..
