De-Cluttering Part II

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Well, the bed went, and I'm slowly getting rid of a few other odds and ends via freecycle.org (great invention when you just want to get rid of things...) I keep telling myself that the stuff I am getting rid of is just STUFF...it's nothing amazing. I tossed a few knick backs that I can't remember how I ended up with and finally tossed the ugliest vase ever...it was my grandmother's..and that was the only reason I was hanging on to it. I didn't even remember it being in her HOUSE much less how she came across it. I know it wasn't worth anything--we took it once to an antique event and the people said that it was something won at a carnival in the early 1900s...not valuable...which makes sense because it was the ugliest thing ever.

It feels good to get rid of this stuff. Later today I'll work on getting rid of some of the school stuff... So it's coming :)

Also, I went to Quinn's last night...ended up just being me and the non-runner. We had a good time though, so it was worth it. I think that I really am a true introvert... (situational extrovert too) Given a choice, I would rather stay home and not be social but with a very few people... It was good to get out though...and I was good. Ate only what I intended and had a couple beers. And I got some extra exercise in... I had to run BACK to the bar to get my credit card that I left...gah. :P

Decluttering feels so heavenly! I've gotten to where I really don't have a whole lot of "stuff" around - except for scrapboking supplies! I just don't deal well with it all. I was at my ex's yesterday and it seriously felt like I was in a hoarder's home!

Just saw your status - what's the PLACE test?

I love Freecycle. I got rid of a mattress set through that site! I can only handle doing a little de-cluttering every day - each day I see things through new eyes and can become less attached to "things."

Congrats on the decluttering! I get so stressed when the house is cluttered (like it is now). I have used freecycle in the past (FYI to anyone who is interested...make sure to note it's ".org" and not ".com"!). I really love freecycle, but sometimes it is hard for me to just give away things when I can't find a teaching job and need whatever money I can get. I feel I need to have a garage sale or sell things on ebay, but that means a huge project cleaning out the garage, sorting, pricing, listing, etc. I never seem to get to it! I had to laugh at your grandmother's vase. I have a cake plate like that, too! Keep up the great work!

My clutter is overwhelming at times, glad to hear someone is enjoying success. A bed gone?! That must feel GREAT to have that gone. I'll have to remember freecycle before I toss toys.

I hate taking the time to de-clutter, but holy crap does it feel good. I recently read a decluttering article and one suggestion the author made really resonated with me. She said to pick a theme as your focus for decluttering. For example, my theme is "freedom." By getting rid of stuff it frees me from so many entanglements, etc. It also ties into my overall new life theme of freedom. I'm trying to gain more financial freedom to do the things I really want to do (travel, etc). So anything that prevents my "freedom"...goes. It's really helped me make better decisions.

Also, thanks for reminding me that I need to get back in gear. Lots more freedom to gain by decluttering my kitchen. lol
