Movie Tuesday

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Today should have been movie Tuesday. It's not. Every Tuesday our show has first run movies for just $5. admission any time. We were going to see Men in Black today but it didn't happen. Perhaps next week. Things come up, timing isn't right, life happens but that doesn't mean it's not going to be a good day. It is, even if it rains like it's supposed to do. It's all what we make of it and I'm determined to make this good.

So I popped a sun dried tomato bread in the oven and let the aroma drift thru the house. My daughter says my house always smells so good but strange. Well if she did some cooking instead of buying togo foods, her house would smell great too. She can't reconize what I'm baking by the aroma but my husband sure can. After 39 years, his nose is so tuned to the different spices I use that he can pick out even the obscure ones. Since certain foods call for certain spices that tells him what I am cooking. Lately, I've been experimenting but still his nose knows.

Just because we are trying to eat healthier doesn't mean that we have to sacrifice flavor. There is nothing better than when you get excited by a meal and look forward to it. Lately it looks like we've just been having bread and butter for supper but we're not. If you can see what I put into my breads, you would see the veggies and proteins that I get in there. It's an all in one meal.
I even make a 'chigala' bread that has bits of pork in it. An old receipe that my Nonie passed down. It's sooooo good especially hot and right out of the oven.

So while this is baking, a nice cup of tea is in order. Yes, our days are what we make of them and today I'm making this one good!

Oh my those breads sound awesome! I can feel my mouth watering!

I grew up with a mom who had the idea that spices were salt and pepper. Talk about bland food! No wonder I hated eating as a kid! Now I have tons of spices in the house, and use them in different ways. I am always experimenting with new flavors, and that can take a meal that people felt meh about into something they rave about!

Today is ours!
