scale & non scale derby style

Weighed in at 161 this morning. It's not my weigh in day so I'm not tracking it yet. I only jumped on the scale because I felt thin this morning. That's 3 pounds down! I'm trying to not let the numbers get to me but it's nice to see the scale respond to my efforts.
Last night at derby practice I noticed some non scale victories as well. During a drill where Coach calls your name and you try to knock/push someone out of bounds, several girls tried to hit me out. I got low (squat position) and was able to hold my own. A couple girls did get me out but it wasn't without me pushing back and making them work for it. A couple other girls gave up and went to an easier target. It was nice to be able to hold the derby position and use my abs without feeling like I was going to die!
I also managed to skate on the far edge of the track during pack 40 drill (whole pack skates close for 40 laps trying to beat last time). The inside line is the shortest way around so the beginners normally skate there and the middle and outside is for more experienced skaters. I felt like I was being held back so I moved around until I was on the far outside. I was really trying to stay low and concentrate on my cross over form. One of the veterans on my team even patted my back and gave me a thumbs up. Not only did I know I was doing well, someone else noticed. That made me smile!
There were some disappointments though. I've been playing the pivot role quite a bit lately during practice and was hoping to get it for our bout this month. No go. They changed the lines last night and said that's what we would be playing for the game. I felt like I got demoted. I don't mind our line's pivot but the other line's pivot doesn't communicate at all. I think she was put in that position just because she has some seniority. But I wouldn't want to change lines either. I'll just go with the flow and make it known that I want the pivot panty in the future.
My year derby anniversary is August 4th. I keep reminding myself that less than a year ago I couldn't even skate and here I am concerned about getting the pivot panty. That is a huge non scale victory in it's self!!
On another note, I wanted to flake on my strength training yesterday but I didn't. Abs were completed! Frugal fitness had a good ab workout on youtube. I liked it and I'm glad I did it. I also almost ditched my morning walk since it was rainy and my walking buddy was out. But I decided I needed to pick up a stamp so I walked laps inside the capitol where the post office is. Pretty proud of myself for keeping up with my goals even if I really don't want to.
