Newbie here... how much do you tip your masseuse?

Sunday, June 10, 2012

Hey guys!

I bought a $35 Group On for an hour's "Swedish" massage at a chiropractor's office... I believe the value of the massage without the coupon is $85... never had one before, so I don't know how much to tip.

I live in the States, Texas to be exact.
Any guidelines would be appreciated.

I never tipped chiro or physical therapist for message since service is paid by my insurance, but will bring them something special they like if I go on regular basis. My pt loves cup cakes and I would bring enough for entire staff. My neighbor brought them home made lunch. When I had message at spa with gift certificate I received as present, the women was so good, I tipped her $10.

My bill is $43 and I round it off to $50 with tip.
Not sure if it's right or wrong.
    It's just what I do.

Interesting question. I've had to go to sport's massage pros before, but they are not fun, and don't do it for an hour. OMG you'd die if they did. I've never gotten a phoo phoo massage. Bet you'll love it and you got a great price. I'd tip $10.

You tip on the full price, so it would be 15 or 20% of the $85.

It depends. In a doctor's office (or chiropractor's office), I never tip for a massage. Because I sure don't tip the doctor or DOM or chiropracter.

And I don't tip when my regular massage therapists. But that is because they run their own business and have little overhead. (And both told me they are priced so tehy don't need tips.)

In a spa environment, I tip 10-30% of the full price.

If it were here in the UK 10% of the charging price is customary
