Found an Old Friend Today... SWEAT

Saturday, June 09, 2012

I haven't been missing, Sparkies. I've been logging in most days, tracking my food (on the weekdays anyways), and getting in my fitness minutes - but I have definitely been in a rut. I didn't even know I was in a rut until I had 4 runs scheduled this week - and EVERY single one of them, I didn't want to do.

Don't get me wrong - I did them. And HATED every second up until I actually hit the pavement - then felt better, and just assumed it was 'one of those days'.

But I've been having more and more of those. And I've been gaining, and have become moody, and have other body/doctor/test things that have been going on to keep my motivation down - not to mention WORK and ON CALL is sucking my will to live (I thank you, Garth)!!!

So this morning, I woke up early - 7am, so pretty early for a Saturday. Rolled over to go back to sleep and said NO. Do something different today - anything different. So I went to the gym and started Strength Training - and also remembered my favorite instructor was hosting the Spin Class this morning (she really gets me moving).

So I did 40 minutes of ST, and then did 30 minutes on the Rower - just to do something different, and something to keep going until the Class. Then I grabbed a card, and did 20 MORE minutes of ST (Burpees, you haunt me!) before the class even started. Did the class, busted my @ss, and found an old friend...

SWEAT.

Yes, I know I sweat when I run, and I sweat when I'm on my bike, or doing my ST. But I needed one of my old workouts where I sweat for several hours - it felt amazing. And wouldn't you know it, after the workout - I wanted to eat something healthy. So I did - a fruit smoothie.

Funny how A+B really can cause C to work itself out, hey?

i tend to get into ruts as well and end up dreading what I need to do. I need some fun scheduled, I think. Good job on the exercise.

Nicely done! Sometimes, we have to get fed up with the status quo and surprise ourselves and our bodies!

Great recovery! It is hard when those ruts suck you in. You sound a bit like me, that sometimes I do not even realize I am in a rut - until I have been for days. I am glad you kick some butt, and that you feel better!

You've inspired me to get off my butt and go for a run in this cold, wet day.
