Ok everyone...I hate to bring this up...but I'm having an issue.

I suffer from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and normally I have no problem passing bowel movements...in fact I go more than I'd like too some times, but at this time I find my self constipated. I've never had this problem before. I normally go at least 1-2 times daily, but tomorrow will be my 5th day without going at all & I've been in quite a bit of pain for the last couple of days.

I'd take a laxative, but with my IBS, I'm afraid too...mainly because of the IBS, but also because I suffer from a spastic colon & stomach & I'm afraid it will set that off also.

For the last 2 days, I've been taking fiber supplements, as well as eating more fiber & drinking at least 80 oz. of water...but it's not doing anything at all.

Please, someone tell me what I can do. I'd go see my dr, but at the time I don't have any medical insurance, and I don't have the money to see him without it.
Anyway....I'm open for suggestions.

I get constipated and my husband has IBS. We take a daily supplement that has regulated it out and no more tummy issues but it can be expensive. So I tell everyone that you can take a good pre/probiotic and that tends to help clear things in the digestive tract and regulate it. Then keep up with your fiber, cut back on red meats (they're kind of hard for the body to digest), eat full apples (not applesauce, works differently), eat browning bananas (never green or bright yellow if you're backed up, but the ones with the brown spots are going through a decomposition process that could actually help your tummy too), and check any prescriptions you take for side effects of constipation or bowel problems and see if there is a different prescription you can take. Water is more important than fiber right now so make sure you stay up on that.

Awe....I feel for you...there are no free clinics or hotlines that you could phone? In Canada we obviously don't have to pay for our medical care, but because there are so many people that tend to go to the er, they set up a hotline number where nurses actually give advice on what you can do...is there anything like that? One question I would have too is are you drinking enough water to along with your fiber? My class and I have been talking a lot about the digestive system, and that's come up again and again. Also what about Dr. Oz? His site is so useful...check out:

    Hi,

I know little about IBS. I wonder if you ahve spoken to a pharmacist? Sometimes they can recommend something over the counter.

I hope you feel better,
Andrea
