Here is the lesson I learned today: If and when you are going to take a bike ride some where you've never been before, it is a VERY good idea to drive/walk the route you want to bike. Had I followed this advice myself I would have found a different route to bike on.
There are a lot of rivers around where I live, so while I was checking out Google maps, I found a route that was maybe 6 miles. It was a loop ride, starting at my house going up to one end of the road and riding the whole road. Had I reconned (checked out) this route before attempting to ride it, I would have stayed away from it. I rode down a hill towards the river and then the road follows the river, I then made my way about 1/3 up the other end of the road. I had to walk my bike up a hill that had a 35-40% grade to it. At least it wasn't a very long hill, although it sure felt like it. From now on I'm going to stick to paved roads and places I know for riding.
Now time to head to the pool to de--stress from that ride.
Have a great day everyone.
