It's finally the last day of school. Had we not had a springtime snow day (it was bad that day...) we would have been done yesterday.
We tend to have last day of school rituals. We always pick the kids up (to make sure everything they brought to school comes home) and go out somewhere to eat. I suggested Perkins and that seems to have gone over well with them, they love the pancakes there. Fortunately the nutrition information is online, unfortunately it's only online, I can't get a printed nutrition sheet while sitting there. I may have to call corporate about that... Looking at the menu, there are few things that I can have without killing myself with salt and half (or more) of my calories for the day. I found one thing that I will be having today, steak! I was looking at the breakfasts, but even with omitting the things I wouldn't order with them, I was still getting half my calories or more and most (if not all) my sodium for the day. There are few options there for anyone wanting a decent portion size.
I don't know if I can go online with an Amazon Fire. Does anyone know if that has that capability? I would love to be able to have portable nutrition with me and can't afford an IPad. I don't have one of those fancy phones that does everything my computer does, I just have a cheap one with prepaid minutes to do phone calls.
I plan on being at the school all day and going to lunch with the kids again. I discovered that I can do lunch there for under 400 calories. They have a great salad option! If I don't do the extras, like goldfish or animal crackers, then I can get it under 300 calories!
I know the kids love having me there and enjoy having me play with them at recess. (I actually like recess, workplaces really need recess!) I've made many kid friends and just love the things that come out of their mouths. I even ran into one of the kindergartners at Target last night and waved, as I was walking away I could hear her telling her mom that I'm the mom of one of her classmates with an excited voice.
Hopefully the kids will end up with summer friends from their classes. I know they have gotten a couple of phone numbers and there are a few of their classmates right in the same building as us. I look forward to an exciting summer playing with the kids!
