Life is short, so Zumba while you can

Friday, June 08, 2012

Spent the last two weeks going extra gentle on my body, since I'm pretty sure I tore my calf muscle a bit during a Zumba class the other week. It wasn't as bad as I feared it would be not exercising to the same extent that I had been (I still did a couple of things, biked the kids to school, etc.), but it was just OK.

That being said, I went back to Zumba this morning and *wow* was it nice to be back. I was still very easy in my moves, but afterwards I was just that special kind of tired that only comes from Zumba. My body was so.very.happy!!!

Got another reminder last week that life is short - a sweet neighbor of ours unexpectedly passed away and it has just kind of put into perspective that I need to do this now, so I can enjoy life more now (not that I can't enjoy life 50 pounds heavier, but it is much easier to move when I'm lighter). By contrast, another friend of mine (with 4 year old twins!) just finished her first half marathon and so maybe running will be my next "new" thing?

I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor's passing. I couldn't agree more about "Life is Short". Thanks for the reminder. A couple of friends of recently joined a local gym. They are excited to start taking Zumba classes. They are trying to recruit me as well. LOL. I told them that I would consider it after they tried it out first. Best of luck with your continued recovery and progress.

Glad you are taking care of your body. Sorry to hear about your dear neighbor, and you're right that life is too short. I just got back from a walking festival in Europe, and for the first time in years, I wasn't the fat, slow American with sore feet always bringing up the rear. This time, I blazed up hills and passed some of the people that used to look at me with a smirk for being fat.
