I didn't make it to the movies but...........

Thursday, June 07, 2012

I was actually thinking of catching a movie today but by the time I woke up, my Mom was already out. I forgot to tell her on Wednesday night to wake me up before she leaves. After I had lunch, I actually thought of catching the 5pm show of Snow White and the Hunts Man. Madagascar 3 looked interesting too. But because of the spate of robberies of lone shoppers etc. in the nearby malls right now, my Mom was afraid to go into the car park on her own.

So, I spent the afternoon sewing instead. I'm cross-stitching a 3 hearts in a row bookmark. I'll post a pic on my Sparkpage when I'm done! I didn't get much done as cross-stitching is major time-consuming but I was glad I managed to get some sewing done.

Then my Mom came back and we went out for dinner, lam mee, means noodles in broth with belacan (some Malaysian chilli paste thing). After that, we went to the mall anyway, we popped into the supermarket and my Mom did some grocery shopping. I bought some yummy japanese roasted seaweed snacks! I also bought some romaine lettuce and some back bacon! I have some unripe avocados in the fridge now, I hope they ripen soon because I can't wait to make and EAT a romaine, avocado and bacon sandwich on whole wheat bread!

1 Utama is one of my favorite malls! I used to go there very often before I moved to the States. Where I live now, we only have one mall - Cherryvale Mall. It is not very big compare to the malls back in Malaysia.
The nearest Japanese store where I live now is about one hour and 15 minutes drive without traffic congestion. Due to the distance, I only go there when I need something. Chicago Chinatown is like one hour 45 minutes drive without traffic congestion. We do have an Asian store here but not all cooking ingredients are available.
Belachan is not available in my area. :( I had to use a substitute Lee Kum Kee Shrimp Sauce (finely ground)

The mall was 1 Utama. I think maybe you can get the seaweed in the US. It's from Japan and they are basically slivers of roasted seaweed that you eat just like that!

Even though you did not go to the movies, your day turn out pretty good. I miss lam mee too. Say, which mall did you go to? You mention yummy Japanese roasted seaweed snacks. Sounds good.

I only stick already ripe avocados in the fridge for them to last longer. If you want unripe avocados to ripen faster, stick them in a paper bag at room temperature. They usually ripen within 1 to 3 days.
