I'm 5'4 and 226 lbs. I tried to do burpees yesterday for the first time -- I started going to crossfit and I was assiged a.. well I call him my babysitter, to show me how to do the moves and down-scale the moves we can for my needs. When we got to burpees he said "Theres no way to downscale a burpee." Since I couldnt really do them, I ended up spending about 10 minutes just throwing myself on the floor, getting up and throwing myself face down again. In fairness to the kid (he was really nice, my babysitter. Totally not judgemental, super nice..) I dont think he knew anything to tell me that would make it easier. He didnt really explain that it was a squat, to a plank-push-up to a squat. He just sort of hopped all skinny and lithly - like a sprite, and said "do this". So while my half-frog babysitter hopped about in a near prancing fashion, I threw my body on the floor and started trying to find ways to protect my knees and face from getting full on smashed. Today my assignment to myself will be to find a way to modify burpees so that I can keep up with the rest of the group.
