Family makes me crazy!

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

I called my mother today, and found out that:

1. My brother almost died of a heart attack, but the defibrillator in his chest kicked him back to life;

2. One of my sisters - the one who DIDN'T have major kidney surgery -- is now having kidney problems; and

3. My mom's doctor has sent Mom to a dialysis support program so she can be prepared for total kidney failure.

Apparently I should call more often. Because THEY clearly can't pick up the phone.

And of us four kids, I'm the only one who hasn't had serious kidney problems. My husband cited this as further proof that I was switched at birth.

It is sad that you had to find everything out at once but don't feel alone with this problem. Many of us can relate! I am happy that you aren't having kidney problems as it sounds like it runs in the family.

So sad that your family has had health problems and no one seems to want to call you. I used to have issues about my family driving literally within a few hundred feet of my house (they all live over 30 minutes away) and not stop and visit, but I've gotten past that.

Now I just call my mother every night to make sure she is safe before I go to bed because if she falls, she doesn't tell us and I don't want to think of her lying on the floor dead or just cold and miserable.

I think your health choices are saving you from having kidney problems. The biggest causes of kidney problems are blood pressure and diabetes. If you are taking care of those, you will probably be much safer.

Call once a week to make sure everyone is still alive. You will be able to sleep peacefully and even if they don't initiate the contact, you will be informed.

So happy you do not have kidney problems. My mom was going to have to have dialysis but they realized it was the heart medicine they were giving her causing the failure. ?? Drs... and family. What are you going to do? I actually prefer to not hear from my family. :)

So sorry about the health problems your family is enduring. My family doesn't call me either and my father has been diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer (the worst level of stage 3). They don't call me when he's admitted to the hospital, etc.

I have a very dysfunctional family that I come from so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that they don't call me, but you think that common sense would prevail and that they would care enough to let you know of major issues like the ones both of us are experiencing. emoticon

Oh don't get me started, my parents are visiting right now. Thankfully just one overnight . . .

Welcome to my life, you lucky devil! LOL

My older sister had not one, not two, BUT three open heart surgeries about 2 years ago - the last of which involved the Canadian gov't footing the bill for her and my BIL to go to Texas for the 16 hour long surgery and 10 weeks of recuperation time. Apparently there weren't any doctors up here willing to take the responsibility for this very risky operation.... I did not hear anything about all of this until her "Christmas letter" that year. Oh, that's also when I found out about her husband's emergency heart surgery to install a pacemaker....

If I don't initiate the contact, there is none..... Even when my family and I were doing all the care for Mom, the only times I would hear from my brother or sister was if they had something to criticize about the way we were looking after her.....

Gotta love the relatives!

Family can be a pain but when they are gone you wish they were there to be that pain.
